History Tottenham Boys - We Are Here

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It wasn't my era, by my time as a lad it was the odd scuffle at most for the average supporter, so I'm not the right one to comment. But in fairness I don't think anyone's enjoying memories of stabbings or the the threat of, so much as being a young lad caught up in the spirit of mobbing up etc. Weird one, I see it now through the eyes of an adult man and it's immature and, ultimately, bullshit. But there's no doubting its allure for youngsters.

All that said, sorry that happened to you. Can understand the perspective.

Having been an active participant it always amazed me how diverse the ‘throng’ was!!

I remember the aftermath of a game at Derby at their old Baseball ground when the warring factions were chasing each other through the grim backstreets!

I sheltered in this alleyway with a few other Bods as we had got isolated from the main bunch.

I got talking to this guy who was a solicitor and me an engineer!

Why were we there?

Because we were Spurs and Saturday afternoons were the highlight of the week!!!

So onward back to the station if we could and we loved it!!

Win lose or draw you stand your ground etc!!!

Great memories!

I guess that's another element of it all as well. It's completely outside the dull reality of whatever work you do and the rest of the week. Obviously, you get older and life gets bigger.

In my younger days, whether we won or lost on Saturday was the only thing on my mind all week. And when Saturday came around again, out with the boys, bravado, camaraderie, it made the whole week worthwhile.

As I say for me it wasn't a running battles or whatever thing, the odd minor scrap was all that ever happened, but I get the nostalgia those a bit older than me feel for an era that 99% of people wouldn't want to return to.

Don’t get it, but I suppose everyone needs their purpose. My cousin is high up in the Aberdeen crew and I’ve often asked him for his reasoning. He’s an intelligent guy, a highly regarded and respected oil and gas engineer, in his forties with a wife and three kids, but when I ask the question, I get a shrug in response. On any other subject, he’s extremely articulate.

I’ll never understand why hurting others, and yourself, is anything other than really fucking stupid.

Derby away was lively. Very.

Went 20 handed into the home end and got a round of applause from the away support when we were eventually ejected. It was going off everywhere afterwards.

Not having a pop but I just don’t get it , never had the inclination to do it . I do have a mate who was into it when he was younger , before I knew him though . Funny thing is he still talks about it with nostalgia, whilst having a fairly right wing attitude towards those that break the law. I’m not sure how he reconciles the two

I was mid-late teens and pretty feral. Didn't really know any better.
Was a day out with your mates with some shenanigans thrown in.

Was that the time that their ‘End’ was down the side?

That’s what I remember and we got a reception committee from the Baseball Ground faithful!

Shit part of town as I recall and one of the worst pitches in the Division

Plod were fair though and whacked anyone that they could reach both sides, unlike those in Scouseland where they definitely favoured the Dipper scum !

Same here

I began my apprenticeship at a large steelworks when I was 16 and for a couple of years the Saturday afternoon tear up was a feature of the weekend after the Friday night disco!

No sleep until Sunday!!!

There was an incredible buzz about an away trip. You genuinely felt like an invading army taking over another town.
There is a chapter in The Glory Game, check it out youngsters, about a trip to Coventry which really captures the feel.
I remember Derby away, one of our lot was carried out on a stretcher from the away end.
Getting back to the station was very hairy.

The "home" end was behind the goal. We were down the side

Their ‘Bods’ were always down the side whenever I went but I’m talking about the time when at most grounds you could walk right round before Plod clamped down and spoiled the fun!

This was the early 70s and another thing was that weapons such as Stanley knives etc weren’t used!

Then it got silly around the mid 70s when certain fans starred carrying, mainly Chavs and Dippers as I recall

I guess all my shenanigans were gambling related when I was 16 through 25 . Lot of fun and I look back on it fondly so I am in no position to be judgemental

Each generation had its thing.

I spent my time driving around the M25 and breaking into warehouses to dance to repetitive beats in my late teens.
Which then evolved into spending weekends in a twilight world that really started just as most people went to bed.

I imagine had I been born 15 years earlier me and my crowd of mates would have found something different to get into.

Everton were notorious. Ask Millwall.

At the risk of being called a ‘sheep’ it’s a social sort of thing that you join in with your mates!

Late teens we were going to ‘All nighters’ with no booze, the odd dodgy pill and dancing and no aggro!
