Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

A lot depends on how much of a say Ange had over recruitment.
As always, the fickle fans in here flip flop too much. One minute he's the reason they signed. He's on the phone convincing them to come to the club. When the player is shit, it was all Levy, it's not his (ange's) fault, he hasn't been backed.

The truth is unknown. We fans have absolutely NFI how much of a say managers have/had over each individual signing. You can't just pick and chose at will which ones were manager signings and which were club signings though.
Ange has said repeatedly that he has the final say. So either that's true, or he's lying to all Spurs fans. Which wouldn't be great. I think it's very likely true. Just that he's operating in parameters that push towards young+low wages.

That front 3 doesn't have to be bad though. If we actually used Werner and Johnson's pace it would look better. But we insist on taking 20 passes just to get the ball to either of them, then it's at their feet, on the halfway line, with the opposition set up nicely to defend.
On the rare occasion we actually move the ball forward with a hint of urgency, we usually end up scoring.
It's amazingly disappointing given all the hype about Angeball isn't it? The defining characteristic of Angeball at Spurs has been struggling to play it out from the back, slowly.

I'd love to see the equation which spat out this number
Unlike Conte and Mourinho who we brought in as purely short term solutions to try and win now while we had peak Harry Kane, Ange was brought in as a project manager. I believe it was accepted within the hierarchy that we would not be competitive for a few years and that we'd use these years to bring the wage bill down, average age of squad down, start playing exciting football again, etc. Basically Ange is doing what they brought him in to do! Thats why I think there is a 90% chance he gets this season

TBF.... Fan (Spurs & Celtic) hyperbole aside; all I was categorically expecting was attacking football.

It's always worth separating fan hype from both official club and even media mantras. (Afterall; if you drill into any fanbase; you'll eventually find all possible narratives about most matters.)

......Same as whenever fans talk about "expected" amounts to be spent. It's never derived from club statements.

Tbf mate we can draw our conclusions from the words of numerous managers who do have previous, first hand knowledge on such matters.
And the conclusion is very little

We are a CL level club. The Board would absolutely not be happy with a mid-table finish given the money spent under Ange and the squad at his disposal.

Project manager or not, there is still a floor which if you fall below means trouble.

If we hovering 8th-10th in the league then Ange needs a cup win and/or a couple of cup finals to keep his job.

Early cup exits and he won't see the season out with this shoddy league form.

He similarly said that HE wanted to build the squad with young players.
True yes. Though there's young, very good and expensive. And then there's young and less good, and cheap (at least on wages). We went for the latter!

ok, but i'm dissappointed with the attacking football. We fail to utilise pace. We don't take players on 1v1 enough. We don't shoot enough and hesitate and fluff a final pass. We don't get it out quick enough from the back often. We're too predictable.

Maybe a selective bunch of stats "disprove" this. But it's what we see.

Well yeah. That's probably true in as much when he's offered a player he'll more than likely give his approval if he's told it's a case of "take it or leave it, mate"

Already loud boos from every direction on Sunday.
The problem is, we'll probably get beat away tomorrow where it'll be drowned out by the home fans, then we'll inexplicably show up Vs Chelsea.

I'm not saying I want Spurs to lose to get Ange out.
But each random win once every 2 or 3 games seems to prolong the inevitable.

I think we’ll sneak a win tomorrow but dreading Sunday already

Putting young players on high wages unless they're absolute set-in-stone wonder-kids (the kind of which are pretty much locked down by Barca/RM when they are still at school***) is foolishness.......

.......Just ask Man U.

(***Ironically; some of our cheaper young players were being headhunted by Munich & Barca when we signed them.)

He can say that all he wants, but what really goes on behind the scenes is not really as obvious.
And this is me giving him the benefit of the doubt. Because if he does have the final say on the transfers, then it's a fucking travesty that we've seen so little of Gray and Bergvall, that Veliz barely kicked a ball before being loaned out, that Dragusin only gets a game when one of the main 2 are injured, that Philips hasn't even been to the stadium and so on and so forth.

The ironic thing for Levy is that if it wasn't for stupid manager contracts that result in massive payouts for sacking them, most of his appointments probably would have resigned just to get away from him over the last decade or so. I would put Ange as a prime candidate for a pride based resignation if he was let down in the window but for the fact he'd lose a fortune for it.
