Watching the likes of Mateta play makes you appreciate the importance of hold-up/link-up play a lone striker should be offering. Yet other than Solanke we have nobody who can provide anything even resembling that. Can't believe we didn't sign at least another striker cut from the same cloth. Likes of Son and Kulusevski isn't it.

Brighton very similar to us. Keep coughing up the ball up front and easy to break through. Mitouma so similar to Son, missing when chips are down. Wellbeck a big miss for them like Dom is for us when not playing. Lamptey and Estupinan decent going forward but can’t defend like Porro and Udogie.

Impressed with Mitchell at left back for Palace and that Hughes is controlling everything in the middle

Solanke is excellent at it. He wasn’t my first or second choice but he’s been very good for us regarding his all round play. If he can add more goals then £65 million for him is a decent deal.

Solanke is fine, I wasn't arguing otherwise. He's the swiss army knife type that offers a little bit of everything, despite not excelling at anything particular. If we played a formation where he always had a secondary player next to him, taking advantage of the spaces he creates within the opposition defense, then he'd be even more valuable. Or if we had half-decent wingers capable of taking their man and delivering quality crosses/cutbacks that he can convert. We're far from fully utilizing his strengths.

My point was about lack of any backups. As soon as Solanke goes down you start seeing silly stuff like Son or Kulusevski up front. We have 4 "wingers" (Son, Werner, Johnson, Richarlison) who are actually stuck somewhere between being a winger and a striker, yet we started the season with Solanke as our only true option there. Very negligent stuff from both Ange and board honestly.
