Manager Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I'm not saying that though am I?

Look, I know ENIC are ultimately responsible for us being underachievers. There's no argument from me here, but Ange is isn't appointed by any other club either.

This season is going well beyond simple underachieving.

Mate you said

I want a manager with the confidence and self belief that they can finally get it winning trophies. They should have that ego.

I brought up 2 managers who had a history of winning major trophies, came here, didn’t get backed by Levy and were fired.

Look no further than our current manager to check all of your boxes.
Ego ✅
Self belief ✅
Won trophies ✅ (granted at lower levels)

compare what conte had from the midfield backwards to whats available now and its huge. yes kane is a big miss and son has regressed, but the midfield, defence and keeper have all been sufficiently upgraded.

what conte had
lloris
emerson, dier, davies, romero, sanchez, doherty, perisic
PEH, bentancur, skipp, winks, ndombele, lo celso

now
vicario
VDV, porro, romero, udogie, drag, davies, spence
sarr, bissouma, bentancur, maddison, kulu, gray, berg

them 3 lines have been sufficiently upgraded. the front line needs big investment and we are still a quality CM short....unless gray or berg can become that missing piece.
They haven’t been “sufficiently” upgraded. Our squad depth is absolute ass and players like Son have massively regressed since Conte was here. So essentially we’ve lost Kane and Son.

Also people on here may not like to talk about him in that way but Conte is a world class manager. Easily top 10 in the world. Of course his tactics can get more out of the players. We won’t be getting a manager at that level again anytime soon. The era of deluxe spurs that Poch created is over and we’re back to Jol/Redknapp style teams at best.

I see no point in sacking Ange mid season with the state of this squad. If we’re going to get rid then we might as well wait until the Summer when the likes of Iraola would be more willing to jump ship. Even then, I can’t get excited for anymore “projects”. Levy will always leave his manager short in crucial areas in the Summer.

You said you guaranteed it and now you say there are no guarantees.

Bournemoth and Fulham aren't qualifying for the CL btw.. Not sure what you ae getting at there.

Yeah you must have misinterpreted what I said about the CL, my point was the coming to a club with EL football isn't a big draw unlike going to a club with CL football which kinda justifies my point about Tottenham not being a big draw for these managers.

Do you feel in the two weeks that you said that sarcastically that maybe there is a different way people would look at you now in terms of the Spurs fanbase because you've lost four in five and it's become more difficult this job?

I keep saying fanbase, they love their football club, they care about their football club and want their football club to succeed. They made those feelings and emotions seen. I haven't felt anything but support since I have been here and I still feel that support is there. I keep doing what I think is the right thing to get success to this football club and that doesn't change.

The task is difficult at the moment because of our situation but like most things that are fairly difficult to traverse, it's only temporary and we'll get through it and come out stronger.

Do you feel under pressure and is this the most difficult period of your career?

No and no. It is what it is. It’s not what motivates or drives me. I have always, my motivation for what I do is try to create teams who win things and have success and make an impact. That doesn’t really change. I will keep doing what I am doing.

It doesn’t add any pressure or I don’t feel any extra anxiety about anything. I firmly believe we will get through this and come out stronger and create the team we want to be.

Yeah tbf I was unfair on him - was less an identity crisis and him specifically being told you need to play this style. Which is absolutely fucking mental.

It was never going to work here for Nuno. A panic hire because we couldn't get Conte who was tossed aside. Treated horrendously by our board and I bet he got a lot of fucking satisfaction out of beating us. Good bloke, never somebody who the fans could really get behind but he's perfect for Forest.
I also really dislike who we've become. We used to have a bit of class. But under this lot the way we treat people yuck.... Pochettino, Nuno, Jose, Furlough, senior concession, Vertonghen, Loris. We used to be Mabbutt, Defoe, Perryman Burkinshaw. Decent. Now we are class less from the pitch to boardroom. That's Levy Cullen and the others.

FYI.
We have in England what we call "a football season."
It normally runs from August to May.
Last season we finished 5th, missing top 4 and UCL by 2 points.
This season, despite 10 regular first teamers being injured, we are 6 points behind 5th place and UCL.

Not surprised but pissed off with the failure to adapt.

I understand the philosophy, but when you have the injuries we do and an 18 year old at centre back, it seems unnecessarily stubborn and reckless to continue with both fullbacks so high up near the opposition box.

The goal we gave away was very avoidable under the circumstances.

Grey will be the next to get injured playing this stupid game plan. Every centre back has done their hammy so it’s likely he will eventually too.

Dragusin got kicked on the ankle, and Romero’s muscle injury wasn’t after sprinting back but after he tried to do a Cruyff turn in the box.

I do think broadly you’re correct that a high line increases injury risk, especially in a packed schedule playing once every 3 days. The solution to that should be buying more CBs.
We started the season with 3 natural CBs and Spence out of the Europa squad… poor decision making by all.

That went right over my head. :) There is a lot of how managers and players move around in football that is down to agencies and business relationships. Just now you've got a front office and manager with ties to City Group. It's one more reason Postecoglou isn't going anywhere. Two things will save him. First, he was in the media and did motivational speaking in Australia and he's good at selling himself and his system. He put a lot of effort up front into telling fans what they wanted to hear and creating an image. That reserve of good will is still working for him. But the second thing is the people in the front office who should be overseeing his work and evaluating him are often from the same network of connections. I think he is as close to "fire proof" as any Spurs manager has ever been.

This does worry me. Of course levy always falls for bullshit baffles brains too which our current manager has in abundance.

I'm not even sure if this accusation of enjoying a "managerial-merry-go-round" is factually correct. Have we employed more managers in, let's say, the last 20 years compared to some other clubs that are often mentioned as benchmarks of success?

Clubs like Bayern (13), Real Madrid (16) and Ajax (13) have actually had more full-time managers than us (10) in the same time period. If we're guilty of changing managers too much, then these supposedly enviable clubs are doing even worse.

Like it or hate it, this managerial-merry-go-round is universal. It's not something we as a club are particularly guilty of resorting to. In fact, we're probably on the more conservative side in terms of sticking with our managers in the face of adversity.

The average lifetime of a manager is around 18 months. Don't expect them to get years and years, hundreds of millions of pounds worth of signings before you think you can start evaluating them. No one is afforded this sort of a luxury, for good reasons.

How many CB would you have in 26 man squad?
