Forgetting the in or out debate why the muck did fantastic business brain sign him up to a 5 year contract. For a tight arse accountant he sure does like to fritter away our money.
Before the Lovers can counter with "5 year plan" 3 years max would be fine or 1 year rolling I'm sure this Drongo would have bitten off his hand to come to the PL.

In other news I was just reading how cheap Jao Gomes was
He was signed on a 4 year contract
Not much better just googled it

When talking about why we finished 5th, it's not about opinion, it's about points haul and sustaining 2ppg over 16 games in this league is very good form indeed.

Only 2 teams have achieved that over the first 19 games this season.

I actually agree that during the initial spell after the Chelsea game last season, with all the injuries, the suspensions, the players going to AFCON and Asia Cup, we got steady results.

It was when we got our full squad back in the Spring that it really went to shit, that’s what’s worrying. That was when we really got figured out and ran out of legs completely. Now with all the extra games this season that burnout has been even stronger and happened even earlier.

The performances this season started OK because we were full of energy, as soon as Europa started we fell off a cliff and performances descended into mush. Ange and the board clearly failed to prepare for the increased schedule this season.

Maybe- I concede I could be overly focused on Prem experience right now. I just don't think we can afford to make a mistake on this next appointment- I think we're at a critical juncture right now and risk slipping into genuine midtable. I'd hope Levy and co at least look at Prem managers who have been able to significantly improve the points output of their clubs as a template, and use it to inform their decision making.

I did not watch Dortmund under Terzic too much, but my understanding was that their squad had a lot of longtime veterans like Fulkrug, Brandt, and Hummels, and can't miss young talent like Adeyemi, that may have made him look a little better than he really was/is. I just see less of a floor with an appointment from within the Prem than with Terzic. I hope you can understand my reasoning.

I understand your reasoning.

We have hired PL proven managers before that have done poorly. We also missed on some great managers, like Arne Slot.

I really like the guy at Bournemouth. I reckon there are a couple more like him and the Bournemouth manager in other leagues in Europe.

In the end, the problem with Tottenham goes far beyond the manager.

Maybe Slot would have done poorly here? Who knows.

Of course he would.

I agree that the players do not look demoralized out there yet. They haven't quit. They just look tired and short of ideas.

For whatever reason it doesn't feel like Ange has been able to manage the health of the squad relative to the games/comps faced. Obviously it's undeniable he rushed back both VdV and Romero and now they are out longer because of it. The comments about Udogie not being able to be rested while Reggie has been very available and very paid, are bizarre in the context of Spence being seemingly banished but in actuality a very good player. These observations plus the general sniff/vibes test tell me something is wrong even if it can't quite be fully proven right now.

It does seem odd how poorly Ange has managed the full back rotation given how solid Spence has been and the performance of Reggie last match.

Seems like maybe Ange is just hard headed - once he believes something, he sticks to it like flies on shit, no matter if the evidence clearly shows something different.

If i look a few years into the future we could have Moore, Gray, Bergvall, Lankshear, Odobert, Yang , Hall, maybe a few more as potential starters. I'm a bit worried that Ange is slowing down their football education and therefore their development by playing his one dimensional form of football. Plus he hardly plays them (with the exception of gray).
Add the 2 Alfie’s and donley. We must get some of these to come through otherwise what it the point. I’m sure it was part of Ange’s brief and levy put it in the club statement on his appointment. So far not one player has made it to first team squad from our all conquering youth teams. Infact most have been sold or on loan.

You're gonna have to accept that not every player who comes out the academy is good enough to make it.

Just a thought, but I wonder if one of the reasons we have refrained from sacking Ange is because we want to convey an image of stability to prospective signings.

If we had sacked him before Xmas, all the players we were talking to would have opted to go elswhere if the manager they had been speaking to, suddenly left. Because Ange would have obviously been telling these players how he sees them fitting into his plans etc

I am not saying it's the main reason but I definitely think it's an important consideration. I believe the club have probably earmarked mid to late January as the decision on Ange's future.

By then it will be clear to everyone if he has managed to change our fortunes, if he hasn't we will be in a relegation battle and the club will have to sack him. We will have played Newcastle, Liverpool, Tamworth, Woolwich, Everton and possibly even Toffenheim.

If things haven't markedly improved, and by then we should have any new signings through the door, the club will be able to sack him without it affecting our transfer business.

And I do think the clubs priority right now, is to bring players in, above sacking Ange. It makes little point if he goes this week or in two weeks.
Double edged sword tbh. Players will look at how we play and think twice. Also they know Ange is on sticky ice so may wonder who they are going to play for long term. Ange can’t with any real confidence talk to potential targets knowing he may be out the door soon. What project / dream is he gonna sell players?

I get that but I want to see them at least given an opportunity. We keep spending money on players who may or may not be better than what we have already. Take dorrington who is 19 played all levels for England and is captain plays CB full time. Are we seriously thinking that given a few games he could be at least good as gray playing that unfamiliar role?

Yeah i agree with all of your post but I can definitely see the bolded bit being the case. I keep thinking about Paratici still having Levy’s ear and having a large proportion of his career at Juventus. He isn’t telling Levy to keep the manager watching this season develop. He’s an experienced proper (albeit with a lot of skeletons) footballing man. He’s gonna know.
What the hell is Munn doing then if his not on levy’s ear. Surely if Pat is still behind the scenes lurking about like Peter Mandelson surely that would undermine Lange, Munn and co?

I don't think we're in a position to 'at least give opportunities' to young players just because they're from the academy, it's unrealistic. If they're good enough the simple fact is they'll play or at least hang around the first team. If Gray who is a 6 is playing above a natural CB that tells you that Gray is so far ahead in his development than Dorrington.

Not so sure. Still a risk playing gray there as much as dorrington.

Ange is not building anything! he's destroying it! This is why I want this idiot out of my club. There is no way this fools approach is sustainable we are seeing the physical effect its having on players, we are witnessing the players deflated body language. All this prat will do is drive out the 3 top players we have at the club (Romero, VDV, Kulu) in the summer and drain the confidence from our young crop! There is nothing positive or beneficial by keeping this fool in charge!
