I’ll give you the keeper issue. Not going to have we could have planned for the other eleven absentees.

Saying that, the squad should be stronger. Not more players, just better ones and better suited to the system. One assumes we will learn from this.
 
We're at home. Against a non "big 6" team. And the opposition are odds on with the bookies. How does this happen. Just an absolute confluence of shit has led us to this state we're in. Yes, absolutely horrific luck with the absences. But to be honest, I wouldn't know how confident I'd be even if everyone was fit.
 
One of the worst things about tomorrow and the circumstances, is that we were going to lose even with our best team out. Now it gives Ange and his fans another ready made excuse to defend him on why we lost, and for once this time it will be understandable. So it'll be yet another few weeks with the fraud in charge and he will be able to get away with it. So it's depressing all round. We will lose, but Ange won't be any closer to the sack. There will be no positives.

He can just keep blagging it until the end of the season at this rate, saying it's not his fault, it's all the absentees.

Your answer to the question"odds on" part is right there in bold but Newcastle simply have a better first 11 than us right now and have since they signed Isak, Guimares, Tonali and Gordon.

Our back 5 - if fit - perhaps shades theirs bit not by much. Certainly not enough to make up for the disparity in the middle and up forward.

Our backline is streets ahead when fit. Midfield is close if anything. They have two top forwards and Guimaraes is great, other than this there is bugger all impressive about the setup other than they play to the strengths of their personnel.
 
At least this is the first game tomorrow so can get the inevitable disappointment over and done with. Like pulling off a band aid - quick and painful.

That happened and we still only finished 6 points ahead of them last season? Eek.

They have a smaller wage budget than us, have spent much less in recent windows and have a generally worse squad.

In equal conditions, Howe outperforms Ange every time. Slapped him up 4-0 when they had injuries and we didn’t.

I'm not sure I agree that Livramento/Botman/Schar/Hall is "streets behind" our best back 4 - but I can gua-ran-fucking-tee that the vast majority of fans on this website would absolutely disagree. Just check the relevant player threads.

Tonali is a massive talent and just starting to prove that. You also undersell Murphy who is talented but injury prone. Either way you won't convince anyone on this site that Brennan Johnson, Bissouma, et al are better - again I refer to their own words in player threads.

Isak, Guimares, Tonali and Gordon have taken their side ahead of us.

None of this means we should excuse us being in 11th but please let's have some honest talk about where our list currently lies.

Our own fans aren’t a reliable gauge on our players. We either overrate or underrate players depending on the week. Kulusevski is potentially world class if you listen to some, Romero was a contender for worlds best centre back.. I can go on?

I promise you most of our players would look better under Howe. Nobody wanted Gordon when he went there. Tonali was also widely considered mediocre on here. How about we look at how our own fans rate their players?!

We have better fullbacks, a better goalkeeper, better centre back pairing, a comparable midfield but they have two top forwards including someone bordering on world class in Isak. The gap is not big. Even if it was, Ange has had license to spend significantly more than Howe in recent windows. Nobody they’ve signed is someone we couldn’t have obtained.

I'm fully open to the idea that Howe may get a better performance out of our players than Ange but I don't think it's fair to blame him for not signing the four players I suggested have taken them past us - Isak, Gordon, Tonali and Guimares as all of them were signed before Ange took over weren't they? :ange-blow:

You don’t have to - the results speak for themselves.

Tonali was signed while Ange was here wasn’t he?

The point is that we’ve had the resources to strengthen even more than they have. We’ve spent a lot of money under Ange in comparison to the same time period under Howe.

If we haven’t improved the squad much at all with that, then he should be criticising the business. He says he’s very happy with it.
