Has VAR Ruined Football?

Yes, you will - confirming yet again that referees are cunts. Also, as it was a clear & obvious error by the referee, why the hell did VAR not get involved? Because they're a bunch of cunts too. Incompetent or biased or both? Who cares - at the end of the day they're just a bunch of slimy, untrustworthy cunts.
Var got involved, my steam said they gave it the green light.

The referees are doing a generally good job under real pressure.

Do you genuinely believe that?
I know it is a tough job, but I think refs in the uk are some of the worst in the world and mistakes are made in almost every game in the premier league.
I think standards have gotten worse since the introduction of VAR because nobody seems to know when it should be intervening. Refs don’t want to make tough calls because they don't want to be wrong, and VAR don’t want to intervene because they don’t want to undermine their buddy on the field.
Reffing here is so inconsistent and it gets made worse by rules being changed after incidents have happened because they’re never clearly thought out and are too reactionary.
I think people were more tolerant before VAR as we all understand that humans can make mistakes, but VAR should decrease mistakes and spot errors, but because it’s only used selectively I think it’s made things worse.

I can’t say it any better than this:

At the margins you will always get controversial decisions. How can there possibly be an exact moment where hands are in a natural vs unnatural position? Now account for changing direction and speed of different body parts, the distance the ball is struck from, the speed of the ball, other irrelevant factors like where on the pitch the players are…

Fundamentally close decisions will always rely on judgement and reasonable people can disagree. That’s the nature of the sport. Nothing will ever change that.

Managers and the media instrumentalisé that and they have a captive, highly emotive, highly biased audience. This makes dozens of calls a game potentially controversial when really you have good faith referees making extremely fine judgements under immense pressure. Adding fuel to the flames doesn’t help.

I know that - I was saying that the laws need changing because an illegal action led directly to a goal. That is manifestly wrong.

That's why I broadly agreed with you before caveating

I should add that I'm pissed off because it happened right in front of me and it happened to my team

However I like to think I'd feel the same way if it happened to anyone

except Chelsea... Chelsea can fuck off

That’s fair enough. Maybe the laws are wrong. I think they strike the right balance.

If they were changed so that any handball in the phase of play would lead to a disallowed goal then the Lucas Moura handball that led to the Kane goal a couple of seasons ago would be disallowed. I think most people would say that decision was crazy so I don’t like that rule. That too could be seen as a through ball.

The current rules are much better IMO but reasonable people can disagree.

I believe VAR in that situation can only intervene if the handball is deemed deliberate. And that was lineball.
They said they reviewed but that could have been whether it was deliberate. Sounds odd though as the amount of marginal penalty decisions given that are no way interpreted deliberate... unless there is a exception for penalties. They review fouls during build upbto a goal.

Yes mummy

ps/ you spend hours every week and you don’t know the rules of the game.

Spend an hour reading these and you’ll spend hundreds of hours less complaining like a little brat International Football Association Board | Laws of the Game | IFAB
I know the rules. Please stop making personally abusive remarks. That's the 2nd time and I'm not taking the bait again. I hope you can forgive me for seeing things incorrectly. It's called passion.

and referees are cunts.

I can tell you to stop complaining like a brat and you’re upset but you can tell me to fuck off back to PSG and it’s fine?

Here’s a personal remark: I hope you don’t have children with your thin skin and loose grasp of reality.

Calling referees cunts because you don’t understand the rules isnt passion - it’s idiocy. Just accept you got it wrong and move on.

« Sorry - I got caught up in the moment but im calmer now and see it was the correct decision. »

I used to like you.
I ask you politely to stop being personal and your response is to bring my family into it. That's one step too far. I don't trumpet a foul vote these days, but for this I'll make an exception.

(ps I'd already admitted I'd seen the incident incorrectly)

Ok - I accept your correction. I missed that.

I understand why you’re upset. I’ve moved on.

...leaving behind your foul comments about my family. That's nice of you. I hope you're happy, sailing away on your home-made cloud of self-righteousness. The stench of your post lingers, but not for long.

Given your bad take and foul-mouthed rant against referees, I can see why you’d want to keep talking about your perceived slight.

It was rude but you could easily just brush it off. What does this stranger on the internet even know about me? If it were me then I would give you a funny look - it’s obviously false - and keep things on topic.

Referees get far too much abuse from fans and commentators for making correct decisions and in other cases for making reasonable decisions. It doesn’t help football culture at all to be so fixated on calls particularly when 98% of them are correct.

The thing with VAR is its just another opinion and its also making referee's lazy.
VAR should be for ball in and out of play and leave the rest to the Ref, if he fucks up I'll get over it fairly quickly, with VAR the argument continues for days and days.
Microphone the refs and VAR is another option for all to hear, works well in Rugby.
