Transfers January Transfer Thread 24/25

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If I was to guess, Nagelsmann probably asked Levy if the wage bracket would go up to match the most ambitious clubs in the PL and that’s where the conversation ended.

The reason why any future coach would be from the Silva, Iraola, McKenna bracket and not the Xavi or Alonso bracket is because those guys would still be getting a bigger wage bracket than the clubs they are at.

Any serious coach these days will ask their club to match the wage spending of the biggest clubs in the league

Nagelsmann agent came out and said they rejected chelsea, but nothing about tottenham at all, just the club coming out with their weird statement about not being interested.

now time has passed, I totally believe the statement, the club had no interest in hiring someone who came from a big club like Bayern, with all the expectation he would've had about trying to seriously compete for the league title

With a full squad we were losing games to any teams.

All the guff about us not being spanked makes me laugh. Lose by one or ten, you lose.

We all know our squad needs reinforcements but nobody but nobody tell me that definitely means we are better under this coach.

And it's not levels of where he should be, as opposed to overseeing a good level of consistency. That is the acid test always, and on that standard metric, Postecoglou falls short. Period.

I think he knows it’s all over and he’s not getting any more players. Not any that will be of any use anyway. Probably another Gedson Fernandes or Danjuma level player on loan is all he’s being offered and is rightly telling the club no. He’s down beat for sure but rarely gives anything important away in interviews.
Probably true. And as true, is that us supporters don't always have reasonable demands.

Me myself always bangs on about how we need 7-9 new players, and i still think so.

But no club out there will sell any of their best players in January, unless they are up shit's creek financially.

So either ju sniff out those clubs, or settle for scraps like we tend to do.

That was the weirdest statement ever. they have never done something like that before or since. To me it reeked of damage limitation from another manager knocking them back.

Professional assessment: subtle wanker sign. Probably does that whenever he thinks of Levy without even realising it.
Well at least it's better than heiling twice(!!!) like someone did the other day at the inauguration of the new president of the "most powerful country in the world"

That was just to pressurise Harringay in to submission…
You say that…but the number of times I’ve heard from various people (mostly other Spurs fans, admittedly) that we were a whisker away from actually securing the move makes me wonder whether, with the wind blowing in a different direction, he’d have taken us to Stratford.
I don’t think he’d have batted an eyelid had the stars aligned for him.

Obviously I don’t agree with you on the level he should work at. I’m not sure why you keep saying it to me tbh mate.

A manager working at the wrong level doesn’t win 4-0 at Man City or beat Liverpool twice in 2 seasons.

Is he Klopp or Pepp? Looks like no but going down a few levels? That’s a fantasy in your head imo just to justify why you’ve turned on another coach.

I don’t blame you btw, our fans have been well conditioned by this club to blame managers.
One (or two) swallows a summer does not make. A few one off good results doesn't mean Ange is proven at this level.

For additional context: everyone has been beating City this season and luckily beating a transitioning Liverpool side (pre-Slot) with massive help from VAR last season is not the achievement you think it is.

He is flirting with relegation with a squad that is somewhere between 6-10th best in the league. If he tried Ange-ball at a Brighton or a Palace he would get them relegated and we'd all be laughing. It would be like Bielsa at Leeds.

Revenue is twice Villas, that’s wild considering we didn’t have Europe

Shows why we have backed off from even attempting to compete from a football perspective - the entertainment dome doesn’t need football to recoup massive money
Honestly think this notion is way overblown by our fanbase.

Yes, the monetary value of all the side stuff might be greater than the monetary value of being successful on the pitch, but being successful on the pitch does bring in more money. What do rich people like? Money, what do they like more than money? More money.

Levy isn't actively waving off the opportunity to have the club more successful on the pitch because it doesn't make that much more money compared to other revenue streams. More money is more money and as a businessman he would be wanting to max out returns from every avenue, no matter how insignificant it might seem. Pennies make pounds and all that.

If they have taken their eye off the ball on the football side of things, it's got to be down to idiocy rather than malice IMO.

I never blamed people for being pro Levy. I think they saw this business man who was quite awkward but did love the club and was trying through prudent means to slowly build us up the football pyramid and of course coming after Sugar who is such a low bar it made him easier to swallow.

I just saw a man who was clever and at times useful but fundamentally totally in it for himself. The Stratford move, not helping Redknapp or Poch when we were at the top, the pathetic entirely money oriented way we do transfers. Being a cynic and having worked with one or two tight arses I never liked the man. He is a cold selfish fish. He views the fanbase as a cow to be milked because we are loyal.

Now it’s just naked for everyone to see. We spend more on transfers but much less on wages, no real ambition other than to get the Rolling Stones and Beyoncé in town. I could understand supporting Levy a few years back or believe he might really be doing things to help, I am struggling now to think of how you could support the guy if you are a Spurs fan because if you are an Woolwich or Chelsea fan this guy is a dream ticket to keep your rival low and shit. Other than the Glazers and maybe the dildos I struggle to think of worse owners for the actual club than them.

Other than an ENIC sale I don’t see where we go from here. It’s really toxic, stale and somewhat pathetic.

Great post. And the third paragraph really nails it.
Levy is a legend......For Woolwich and Chelsea fans. If he left, they'd be shitting it.

Not sure I agree. Of course he wants the FC to be successful but appears they aren’t willing to invest to make it happen.
