Fair enough. I just thought the owed money could be written off and less paid for the new guy.

Yes; but the net cost is still the same........ The player won't have cost any less.

With the utmost respect this is not complicated. You should be able to work it out on your fingers.

If I owe you a tenner and want to sell you my bike for 100 quid... Even though you only give me 90; the bike still cost 100.

Hardly surprising we can't sign anyone at the moment ,no player with any sense would come to us when he looks at the way the club is run ,Levy and Ange would turn off any player that had a good career in front of him .

The borders of England were established before 1066 though - the earls of the various regions (former kingdoms) whether Kent or Northumberland or Mercia regarded Edward the Confessor as King, although they had some regional autonomy - some a lot of regional autonomy but Mercia (via marriage of a Wessex princess) had very close ties to Wessex.

Wiliam's idea of being King was very different to the Anglo Saxon's - very little regional autonomy other than where William appointed one or more of 'his ' nobles to 'rule a region such as the 'Marcher' lords along English Welsh border.
That's fair ... I guess the borders are at the place where the cost of fighting the Welsh and Scots was greater than anything that could be gained. National identity is a bit weird when the top political level was more dynasties and families fighting each other than countries. The people who felt national identity most were probably the poor fuckers being sent into battle to get chopped up by equally poor fuckers on the other side.

There is an element of that but it our interest in Bergvall was radio silent until we hijacked Barca last minute. Surely the deal makers would’ve wanted that getting out?

Why? You think Barce would have felt threatened by 'little old Spurs'........ Part of the reason we got our hooks into that one so swiftly is down to Barca arrogance.

That also doesn’t explain how the deals got so public when we haven’t even agreed with the player yet.

It absolutely does..... Spurs interaction with Bayern (especially if it's tangible) alongside further noise surrounding Man U, Chavs & Arse (and later Villa) is blatantly gonna spark major media interest.

That's my whole damn point.

Some countries cultures are just less discrete than others too... Classic example being Italy; where it all seems to just play in the open like some whacked-out soap opera.
