Match Villa v Spurs - FA Cup - 9th Feb - 17:35pm KO

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Those who followed us in the 90s and early 2000’s , this was the norm , go away from home , expect to lose and it was mainly a case of by how many . We had a couple of seasons with a Ginola and a Klinsman but that was it . We don’t have any stand out players now , nobody that gets you off your seat , just an ok team that is probably 10 points worse off than they would be with a decent manager .

You're partially right:
1. The teams tried hard, they showed a fight.
2. We had stand out players worth to go and watch. Klinsman, King, Ginola, Anderton, Gazza, Sheringham, Lineker, Mabbut and few more.
3. We played better football.
4. We won FA cup in 91.
5. There was much less revenue in football.

Someone please tell Levy to buy more young under 21 and unknown players, we are getting better. We don't need players with experience, know how or won trophies before, we are doing very well on the field.
Buying young players to have sale on value is working, terrific.

How does this happen at this level at all, let alone inside the first minute of the match? Four players recklessly running after the ball after being caught off guard initially, yet still leaving the simplest pass available for Rodgers to make. Similar stuff kept happening over the course of the whole match by the way, with Kinsky keeping the scoreline respectable.

These players can't press because they have not been taught how to, not because they lack the physical attributes or the desire. Redknapp would be proud of how much they run around, but it doesn't keep them from being torn apart against any team that can string three passes together.

The first minute of the match shows why 4-3-3 is a dangerous formation if you’re CM is asked to do too much. If you look 5 seconds before Bentacour is at RB.

The other irony of Angeball with this goal is that it all stems from Porro sprinting 40 yards up the line.
Just got caught in no man’s land. Why???? Who tells him to do that??

In earlier iterations the inverted FBs weren’t too fussed about doing that. They would instead help the 6 so you ended up with a 2-3-2-3.

Once Bentacour got pulled out to cover RB, Bergvall or kulu just needed to make a body check / foul and get an early word in the ear about 5 seconds prior to that image.
Ball was closer to villas area. They wouldn’t have got a card in the first minute.

Lack of nous and bizarre pressing caught us out.

This was always going to be a tough match up.

1. Villa coming off a week's rest

2. Spurs backing up a couple of days after a semi final against Liverpool.

3. A couple of new players recently transferred having seen little to no proper training yet

4. Teenagers and 20 year olds having to be difference makers mixed in with guys like Son and Porro who are playing their butts off twice a week on dead legs.

I'm not sure how anyone could expect Spurs to be on their A game when you consider all these odds against them.

Europa League is our best shot right now. We have players coming back in bulk very soon.

It seems as if it’s just not the new players who have received no training yet….thatsnwhy theynhave been a bit better than the others.

Not got an early card is true but this is Spurs and we are easy meat for refs.

What was driving me insane about yesterday was they were playing with a crazy high line and we still kept playing in front of them 99% of the time. It was on all day to run in behind. Whether that comes from Sonny as the striker or the wide players or a midfield runner then what it’ll do is stretch the game. I watched tel and Mikey make the movement to go in behind but our midfielders don’t look to lift it in behind. Sonny is a passenger because he doesn’t want to run in behind enough and can’t hold it up. On the few occasions we did do it we caused them problems. Tel late on ran them in behind their left centre back and Digne and we ended up getting corners from it. We play too safe and play the game too short. We miss madders making those midfield runs and also miss him just being good on the ball. I think Bergvall comes alive when madders plays too. Bentancur,Sarr and Biss offer so little in the overall game. No creativity at all and for what they are meant to do without the ball they offer even less.

Even if we turn the ball over there we suddenly have half our squad stood on top of each other

Mate, we all know this. Expecting leadership, intent, and some vague semblance of defensive organisation and passing patterns on the pitch however is not too much to ask.

"Players coming back in bulk" is not the shining light that people are paving it out to be. Injuries means time out of the game, longer periods to get up to speed, and management of minutes. Not to mention that we've played like shit on multiple occasions with most of our best players on the pitch. And, despite Levy being the biggest cunt of all, let's not pretend like Ange's methods haven't contributed to where we find ourselves.

I have no confidence that Ange has the tactical nous to beat Lazio, Eintracht, Lyon, Bilbao or Galatasaray, despite having a good enough squad (at full enough fitness) to do so. He does not have the acumen to compete with well organised teams. We were a Kinsky away from 4- or 5-1 last night.

I was responding to a post earlier in the thread that questioned Spurs support today vs Liverpools and Newcastles and the fact that Liverpool sang Irish rebel songs, which weren't even particularly rebellious and more common folk songs from the islands of Ireland and Britain.

You are the one making it political. When I live in England I'm called Irish. When I live anywhere on an island called Ireland, NI or ROI, I'm called British, Hun, etc.

If you are one of the 10% of English people that think Northern Ireland and the UK actually exists then fair enough.

But if you think 90% of people thought Davis was British in Southampton you are the one talking shite because he was definitely considered "Irish" by the majority there even if it was not his first preference.

Which international rugby team would Davis have played for if the four provinces on the island of Ireland do not exist?
First of all I'm not English - I am an Irishman and live near Belfast. I am not making anything political, what you said about Rangers is factually incorrect. NI players is a different story - its a different national team and identity.
If you want to think 'the island of Ireland' and NI players like Lafferty and co who have actually been caught using sectarian language AGAINST Irish or Catholic people are are the same then you crack on.
If Davis considers himself British and has a British passport which is his right thats what he is, doesnt matter a fuck what someone in Southampton considers him just like I have a right to my Irish passport.

Northern Ireland does exist - I live in it and its very different to the South.

Just out of interest who calls you British and a hun in Ireland?
