Like ya pos!

I don't think we have a hope in hell against Frankfurt but crazier things have happened.

This was my point 'successful' in Europe but the rest? one of the worst but it all runs on IFs innit...

Rationally ; most of us would agree that we’re unlikely to win the EL ( as depressing as it is for me type those words ) ; but it’s not (yet) impossible,

‘ Football , bloody hell “ etc .

Whilst there’s life there hope ; and if he wins it , then the universe tilts on its axis .

There’s a fascination in following this great Club ; even though we don’t always appreciate what it puts us through.

The time to discuss this is if he wins the Europa but with the poor form of the players, toxic fans it is unlikely.
I understand that hence why I thought the question was hilarious coming from someone who hasn't seen 20, let alone the 40 years of our club :) I can;t comment on managers I haven't seen innit

Completely agree ;

Like I’ve said it’s the most hypothetical of hypotheticals .

Up there with “ if my Auntie had testicles .., ‘“

I think we should re-visit it this after the open-top bus parade OR after our disappointing yet (possibly completely predictable ) exit from the competition ; whichever comes sooner .

PS ; Obviously I’m hoping against hope that it’s after the open-top bus parade.

Not really but...

In one way, and that alone, he'll join a very select club, the only two members of which are legends.

And the players too - Sonny will join Steve and Alan and Danny as our heroes who have lifted a famous European trophy. All who played will enter a very special club and I will always love them for that.

It's just all the other stuff...

Of course not. He would just be a crap manager who won a trophy. The last manager who won us a trophy was crap too, utter shite in fact.

Winning Europa League would certainly give Ange a place in our history but he wouldn’t be remembered as a great manager. He would be our Di Matteo.

True this. 1991 is seen historically as a good year given the FA Cup win but it was only recently that I actually looked at the league form for that season. Good grief, what happened?!
It's also easily forgotten how poor we've been in finals in my time as a fan (55 or something years).

You don't remember it, just Ricky and Roberts and Nielsen and Woodgate, to name just four, and the great photos of the skipper lifting the cup and the celebrations, but as I remember we struggled in all those games.

Certainly 1984 across the two legs. I was at WHL for the second leg, it's head and shoulders my most wonderful football memory, but when my (not altogether reliable) brain clicks in I recall it being agony to watch.

I'm not at all sure about this, but I have the idea that our only comfortable cup final win in my lifetime (born October 1961) was 1963.

From memory. Gaza was injured but whilst he missed most league matches in the 2nd half of the season was fit for FA Cup matches and got us to the final. It all went wrong for Gaza in the final but others pulled us through. We got a trophy and I would forgive our league form this season if and it is a big if we win the Europa.

We finished 10th, 11th, 12th didn't we? It was my first year in Madrid.

The only English football on TV was the FA Cup Final. I listened to the occasional last 15 minutes of other games on the BBC World Service. That was it.

Papers only got here one or two days late. Back then, The Guardian’s football coverage was dreadful. If i was flush I'd buy the Daily Mail which was decent back then for sport.

Tell that to the internet kids of today, they just laugh in your face.
