Player Dominic Solanke

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Getting worse by the week , my issue is that he’s hiding when we get the ball wide , he’s never in a position to score , at least Richi was trying to win his headers and to be fair that’s his game but Solanke , he’s just never there . Pre injury I really liked him but since he wins the odd ball but v little else . And was he playing as a 10 when he came on ??

He’s def not 100% since coming back from that injury. Ran himself into the ground for the cunt for what reward

He needs proper wingers next to him and an 8 who plays balls to his feet.

Pairing him with 2 'wingers' who don't beat their man and barely put in good crosses in a system where the full backs barely overlap and don't cross to him and where he barely has players around him to link up with and apparently he's a major reason why we are struggling lol ok.

Put Haaland in this setup and you'll see him struggle as well.
The wingers comment fair enough, but Porro has crossed the ball more than any other player in the league this season ffs.

Service isn’t outstanding, but it cant be used as the sole blame.
Solanke is rarely in the right place when the ball does go into the box, which is a bigger issue.

He is also not very good in the air - he has had quite a few chance like Richi had last night and has rarely been close .
It is very doubtful - he would have scored had he got the same chance.

Solanke is fine . Not top notch. Nothing that anyone who has seen him playing for years could not have concluded.

Again, trail back to last summer when we bought his services and you will see all those posters who thought we were buying different gravy. Was never going to be the case.

He is on a long contract but much will depend on what happens in the summer, as to whether he lasts the duration.

Like Wood, he will do better at a club with lesser demands, which is very separate to how any team he might play on is set-up.

But Solanke was bought. So it's not his fault he isn't as his transfer fee would seem to have suggested.

The main issue I see from crosses is the lack of looking up in order to find the striker in the box.

How many times do we see it flashed across goal to either the opposition or no man’s land?!

But this is the problem, the issue with the system is that he does so much work outside the box, his team mates around him are the beneficiaries of the space he creates.

I do think that he doesn't sniff out chances like a pure striker would though and he's sometimes caught on his heels but he's a far better player that what he's showing now, the service to him has been pretty poor.

Last season for Bournemouth he had a 1 in 2 record, most of his chances were in and around the penalty box and he had better service from his team mates.

Yeah, but I urge people to watch his showreel from that season. I mentioned it at the start of this thread, but a large number of those goals were 'fortunate' in the sense that many of them wouldn't result in a goal most of the time and the type of chances he got weren't the kind of chances we create under Ange. In statistical terms, he 'deviated from the norm' which is entirely expected from a player over the course of a career.

People expecting him to score 20+ were always going to be disappointed.

He's brought some good things to our game from a forward press perspective, but hasn't performed as a typical striker - certainly not a replacement for Kane. Every stat I've looked at has him underperforming expectations from a chances recieved, chances converted and assists created perspective. Ange needs to tell him to get into the middle of the box every time the ball moves wide - at the moment he tends to hover at the edge of the box, as if there was someone else in front of him.

Feel sorry for him tbh. He was probably charmed by the cult leader and told he's be the center point of an attacking team.
Truth is, he's barely had a sniff in front of goal for months and now the fans are turning on him.

If we could flip him for similar money I wouldn't object. Mainly because I feel he would do better elsewhere and deserves it.

For a similar case of 'round peg / square hole' I'd point at the signing of Soldado - a player incredibly adept at being the central striker in a counter attacking team, who we signed to play in a high pressing team. No space, no goals. If, for example, he'd been playing for this Forest side or Leicester in their title winning season, then he'd have bagged a good number of goals.

Likewise Rebrov who was forced to play as a target man in a long ball team. Absolutely nuts.

We need to start buying players who fit the system we want to play, not just because they've had a decent season at another club.

Honestly, I wouldn't tell him because we won't get similar money - and we could be playing a different system under a manager who can get the best out of him next season. He might still come good, but we'd have to play a much more balanced tactic.

This is more a manager issue than a player issue IMO

Yeah, he's certainly not being told to make those runs into the box (or is completely ignoring instructions) and the tactics don't suit him greatly. I don't want him sold, precisely because he could be an important player under whoever comes in after Ange.

I like him, but it's been a constant story this season of finding the ball crossed from out wide and finding no-one challenging for it in the box.

Plus our crossing must be the worst in the league. We always over hit it or more often than not hit the first man.
