I don’t know which wanker we have on commentary here, but he’s really tripping all over himself to degrade our making a European final. Saying how the foundation of your season is the league and while it’s not to go on a cup run, it’s no big deal. I’m sure that if we were in 4th and out of Europa it would be “well, sure, decent enough but 4th isn’t a trophy and this team has to win something”.
Nah he's right imo.

We've lost 20 games in the league so far. It'll likely be 22. A Europa league win does not mask that. It's been a fucking terrible season.

This.

A EL trophy and let's say a 10th-12th placed finish in the league is a okay season all things considered.

A EL trophy and finishing 17th should obviously set off massive warning signals.

I can't remember a weaker EL winner than either United or Tottenham. Two genuine relegation fodders who might not even hit the 40 point mark, and could've easily gotten relegated if not for the 3 truly dreadful teams at the bottom.

UEFA might have to reconsider their new format if it's going to create champions like these two going forward.
OR it's a sign that the PL are so much better than any other league in the world?

There were som really good teams in the EL.

And of course, teams that have been eliminated from the CL, shouldn't be allowed to get another chance in the EL.

A cup is a cup, if you're out you're out.

The problem is that the CL are to big, too many teams in it, teams that are shit.

But football nowadays are purely business, all about money sadly.

Saw some stats earlier this season over average ticket prices by leagues in Europe.

The PL was #1, with more than double as high average ticket prices as league #2 (who i can't remember right now, probably one of Spain or Italy)

So the PL-clubs could cut their average ticket prices down by half, and still be the most expensive league to watch.

This creates problems. And "shit" teams like us and ManUre can get to a EL-final, because bottom half clubs in the PL, are probably on par with top clubs in let's say Italy, Germany, Spain, and France.

Another problem is a hard time for PL-clubs to "get rid of players". They are on big wages, and too expensive for clubs in other leagues.

So we and ManUre are in the EL-final not because we are both shit, but because the PL are so much better than the other leagues.

But the Tottenham manager has the responsibility to develop the players that he does get and to put together a system that suits them.
Mourinho touched on this topic back in his Chelsea days.

This is the premier league. I'm not here to develop players. I'm not here to teach them to be better at football. At this level, they should be the finished product. My job is to get them ready to play, once they are on the pitch, it is their job to play, I can't help.

If players still can't control a ball or read a game, they shouldn't be anywhere near a premier league squad.
