Eh Flick has had a good season but he also has a better and more settled squad than Xavi did. Plus they are very high risk which means it can go to hell very quickly (see Tottenham). 4-3 is fun when you’re winning. Xavi’s Barca was less frail defensively. Immediately turning them around, winning the title when they were such a mess was impressive. Plus at those clubs it comes down to about 3-4 games separating a good season from a bad one. Look at RM this year. Track record with analytical Spanish midfielders as managers is quite good…

Ultimately who knows how anyone will workout for sure. All good managers will have failures if they stick around long enough and take challenging jobs. Enrique has had ups and downs in his career. Working out for him now. The best thing we can do is try to hire a good manager who either fits with the players we recruit or is adaptable enough to do so. Xavi seems to be a reasonable shout. As long as we don’t ditz around for months then hire Nuno then tell him he has to play a different way than he’s been successful. I’d be fine with Xavi, Frank, Iraola, Silva for the most part.

Sure, every manager wants new signings all the time, but if we have to be honest, Barca have been able to promote some very special players in recent years so Xavi did have some talent at hand. Flick has also promoted some players of his own whilst losing his number one goalkeeper and having a washed Lewandowski

Would be nice with a tactical astute manager but just as important somone who will improve players. When I look at Bournemouth it seems like everyone is better than previous. Especially the midfield of Christie and Cook is surprising, and Kepa not giving a goal away every game is impressive. I still have the former Spanish defender, Iraola, high on my "list"

That may cross Xavi Hernández off the list (if this really is true)....

Tottenham Hotspur have recently held talks with former Barcelona manager Xavi over a potential appointment, presenter Richard Keys has revealed.

Tottenham Hold Talks With Xavi

He's not keen on returning just yet

According to Keys, Tottenham have spoken to former Barcelona manager Xavi over a potential appointment, but he's said to be not ready to return to coaching...

"I heard from a really good source last week Spurs have spoken with Xavi. That makes a lot of sense. Sadly for Spurs I’m also told he’s not ready to return to coaching yet. Or perhaps he’s even smarter than we thought?"

There's no way that this group of players should be fucking 17th in the league. Are there weak links in this squad? Yep. But they exist in almost every team. We've had a hell of a lot of injuries this season that clearly has not helped but even so, every team gets injuries, you've got to be able to adapt.

We need a competent manager and coaching staff. Strength and conditioning needs a complete overhaul and the medical team also need to pull their fingers out. Right now we've got Ange, who is clearly well over his head in this league who didn't even have a coaching team to bring with him. He just assembled a bunch of relatively inexperienced people with zero cohesion and expected things to work.

We need to bring professionalism, cohesion and structure back to the club. It just seems like an absolute mess at present.

Xavi has said very publicly that he’s ready to return. The guys pr team have clearly organized a campaign to get him back in the debate for any job going. He’s done a bunch of media appearances recently and even specifically said he wants the PL.

If the club can’t offer him what he wants to compete then that’s another thing but it clearly won’t be because he’s not ready to return.

The problem is look how poor that second team back 4 is. Romero and VDV have proven they cannot play every game. We tried that earlier in the season and they both got injured and everyone blamed the manager for playing them too much. So we can only target one game a week with them. Udogie is similar. Porro in the only durable one. So if your down to Spence, Davies and Dragusin every second game then its very hard to stay consistent in the league.

probably nagelsmann/enrique all over again there. we'll just mess about until we hit 4th choice and claim he was first all along.

German media saying Leverkusen are lining up Adi Hütter to replace Alonso, who's off in the summer. Bit under the radar, but honestly, not a bad shout at all.

Did a proper job at Frankfurt – took them to the Europa League semi-finals in 2019, knocked out Inter and Benfica, and had them playing with serious edge. That team pressed like madmen and countered with real purpose. You could tell they were coached – not just vibes merchants.

Now at Monaco, mostly using a 4-4-2, though he’s played 4-3-3 at previous clubs. He adapts to what he’s got, gets players buying in, and actually develops them – not just throwing youth into the fire and hoping. Proper structure, but without strangling the team with systems.

He’s not one of those frauds in a suit pointing at triangles on an iPad while the team falls apart. There’s tactical clarity in what he does – intensity with a plan, not just “believe in the system” waffle.

Not sure he’s the type to win hearts with slogans and press conference philosophy, but he might actually win games. Leverkusen going for him makes sense.

Anyone else been watching Monaco this season?

Can't say I was happy with that appointment at the time. Another defensive manager on top of Mourinho and Nuno
Yeah it made no sense whatsoever. Especially as Levy came out after sacking Mourinho and said…

“We shall focus on the recruitment of a new Head Coach. We are acutely aware of the need to select someone whose values reflect those of our great Club and return to playing football with the style for which we are known – free-flowing, attacking and entertaining – whilst continuing to embrace our desire to see young players flourish from our Academy alongside experienced talent.”

Only to bring in yet another defensive counter-attacking manager a few months later.
