Yeah, fair enough. I've spent my life embracing the Jewish association with the club, and it's pretty heartbreaking to see the actions of a rogue government and it's lobbyists having such a negative impact on the perception of Jewish people outside of Israel.

The lobby has flexed it's muscles (again) and now Lineker is gone. That, in itself, only reinforces unhelpful tropes.

To be honest, I can understand anybody standing up for children being repeatedly sniped with multiple precision head and heart shots. I do find it weird how the likes of Le Tiss and Lineker get hounded out for some personal moral view on social media.

The narrative seems to be that if you say something, anything about Israel and Jews you're automatically labelled an Anti-Semitic, we've seen the how it plays out and how the media spin the narrative against those who dare to speak out so I'm not surprised that it's happened to Lineker.

But once again whatever the intention was this news story has done it's job because instead of focusing on the killings of innocent people in Gaza all the talk is about Lineker losing hos job, it's incredible how much power the media have and it's incredible how they can control the narrative.
 
Sad to see how much GL has fallen. Couldn’t control his ego and simply had to have his opinions on anything spread around the world. He lost all sense of grace and respect in the process, albeit references from those who knew him a bit more closely have not ever been that flattering. From a MOTD perspective, the show has become so tedious and stale under his reign and he needed replacing years’ ago. No loss to the corporation, to football or broadcasting in general. He should stick to crisp adverts and enjoy retirement.
 
Jenas recently said on a podcast that the BBC are trying to cut costs so this move is also money orientated, he said that they'll give the job to Chapman, Logan and someone else, lower the wage and split the costs with all 3 of them.
 
Super presenter,but as he has got older and closer to becoming an irrelevance (as happens to all of us), he has become more or as much of the story than the football he is there to front.

Like any that are very good in their role, he will be missed until he isn't, but change is the one constant in life.

Fair enough, but it wasn't exactly obvious in what he reposted - with hindsight he should have given pause. In any case, he apologised almost immediately and deleted it.

If anyone thinks that he's being binned because of this, they're wrong. He's being binned because he spoke out against what is happening in Gaza, and that puts a massive target on your back.

Not ALL Jews are Israeli, or in fact have any ACTUAL connection with Israel, let alone agree with their politics.

Most European Jews are either Central/Eastern European or Germanic... Nothing whatsoever to do with Israel.

To presume that disagreeing with Israel, or siding with Palestine is ANTI-SEMITIC just perpetuates the idea that all Jews are Israeli... Which we're not!

I have no intention of 'returning to the promised land' ...same as I have no inclination to walk around Mecca... They're nothing to do with an Agnostic like me.

Born Jewish, maybe, but don't believe in any of it! ...and I certainly don't consider myself in any way affiliated to Israel. So it's a wasted argument.

People are SO quick to bring their HATRED of Jews into this political argument...

This has nothing to do with Tottenham and all to do with his airing of views on news topics repeadely with no regard for the facts.

Nah, that is your own bias shining through - he is a public figure that was caught out posting commentary on unverified things and reposting things he should have though about more.

great power and great responsibility etc.

public figures are no more informed and opinions should hold as much weight as yours and mine, yet they regularly get an ego and think they know better than the rest of us.

His footballing opinions aren't even very interesting, let alone his political ones.

I've already seen on Reddit that celebrities only ever get cancelled for criticising Israel and if (((they))) want to stop people thinking the tropes are true (((they))) should stop acting like victims and using their "power" to cancel celebs like poor little Gary.


I fucking despair.
