Honestly after the chronic underinvestment with Poch and the catastrophic recruitment under Hitchen left us with a woeful squad even with the Ballon d'Or-worthy striker we got for nothing, the alignment has become pretty decent.
We've got a decent squad with some good players who are relatively well aligned to a front-foot style of play. We've done alright at the basics of squad building the past 2-3 years.
It's just that Levy's categorical refusal to competitively invest in line with industry standards means we're just that critical bit short of our peers in both depth and quality all over the squad. It's just an ordinary 5th/6th/7th type squad, ho-hum.
Just deploying that squad competently is enough to win the Europa League (that competence being a rare treat around here). But it will take a hefty dose of blind luck to compete at the sharp end of the PL or CL with lesser resources, and miracles like Poch don't come around often.
Ederson and Eze would be a major improvement in the middle. Mbuemo would improve the attack. Reckon all three are way too expensive for DL though, possibly one of them is too expensive for him.
Delap is a cracking deal for the transfer fee, but no doubt we won't compete with Chelsea for wages, yet again the usual stumbling blocks, although Chelsea are probably paying him too much to get it done.
