How come no top 4 team or Real or Barca are in for a free Sane? Maybe because you don't buy broken goods from the top teams. You buy big fish in small ponds. Look at City's recruitment. We could have convinced most of those players if we wanted to

Straw man. If there's a talented big fish in a small pond out there that we can get then I'm all for it. But if we are not getting that, or even if we are then I'll take Sane (and I'd definitely take Nkunku) instead or as well as. We need a massive quality upgrade in forward areas. We are going to play CL football next season as well.

I read people bemoaning us letting go a 47yo Peresic with an ACL issue because he scored some goals in the Eredevise, but Sané's not good enough apparently. Likewise Nkunku.

Swapping Son for Nkunku would be outstanding business. Likewise Johnson for Sane.

We are in the CL, we will need Sane and Johnson. Same on the left, we’ll need Eze and Odobert. Then still probably need to have a front 3 guy like Tel and minutes for Moore here and there

Face it Blakey... Nkuku has done nothing to justify the boner you have for him since leaving Germany.

No, but had we actually gotten our act together when first rumours of Khusanov emerged, then we would probably have beaten them to him

You said "most of City's players".

Khusanov's name is hardly near the top of the list when coveting City players comes to mind, is it.

Besides....... It's not like City don't gazump other clubs with their cheat-driven wage bill is it?

Considering where City buy their players, then yes, we could probably convince most. Of course, if we sleep on it we can't compete with City and Chelsea's wages

Unless you're talking about buying them before they're good enough to spark MCs interest then all the talk of "sleeping" is nonsense..........

Agents will shop their clients around for the best deal possible; ultimately wanting whatever's most lucrative for said agent.

There's always a window. We could even have gone for Marmoush 'cos he was showing promise earlier on, and we were even linked back in the day. We were looking at Kvaratskhelia a year before Napoli picked him up. With our model we don't have the luxury to keep monitoring, we have to pounce some times

Agreed; but this is a far-cry from all the above City stuff above.

TBF though the list of "phew; glad we didn't sign them cos they turned out to be shit" players is just as long as the "the one's that we took too long over" list.

There's no exact science..... All we can do is scout our arses off; be as thorough as possible and act with conviction if/when the time comes to do so.

No, my point still stands. We can shop the same places as City do - they are not buying the Messi's or Ronaldo's of this world.

I don't hate our model, I think it can be successful. And yes, the scouting needs to be good.

I wanted Pedro Neto last summer as one of our wide players. Many ppl here upset about the links to that sicknote. When Chelsea came in to the picture I was happy we didn't challenge them. Good for them that he's stayed fit but we all know that he would have lost both his hammies had he come here. Now ppl are upset we didn't go for him but that wasn't the notion at the time. Point here is, there's money and then there's silly money
