Manager Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

the only reason spurs won the europa cup was because ,Ange took a team that finished in 8th spot and had lost kane ,to a 5th place finish and european qualification in his first year in charge. van de ven missed 25 league games, romero missed 20 league games, vicario missed 14 league games ,richarlison missed 23 league games, udogie missed 13 league games ,solanke missed 11 league games. yet there are people who think ange should of kept winning every game without his star players especially his center backs . what is the point of having star players if you can win without them ? in the 4-0 semi final loss in the efl cup to liverpool , the backline was kinsky, spence ,gray, davies ,danso do you honestly believe they could hold on to that 1-0 lead ? the fact spurs took a lead into that match is a credit to ange. the loss to villa in the fa cup the backline was kinsky ,porro ,spence, danso ,gray. when they sit down to analyze why we ended up where we did these thiings have to be taken into consideration. would liverpool have won the title if their starting center backs missed a total of 25 and 20 games ?
God forbid Ange actually manage the squad he assembled and find a way to pick up points in the league through the injuries. Even if you don't think the suspiciously high number of hamstring injuries are anything to do with Ange, we weren't even the worst afflicted team this season by injuries, Brighton were by some distance, and they improved 3 places. Woolwich had a very comparable amount of days missed to us and finished 2nd again, and you can't even use the "no Europe" excuse for them, or that they weren't key injuries considering they had massive layoffs to Saka and Odegaard. Whatever way you try and paint the injury bollocks it just doesn't wash, it's not acceptable to finish 17th with the resources at Ange's disposal under any circumstances.

I find it strange that at the start of the season the majority of sentiment on here was fuck the league, just win a trophy. Now that he’s done that the sentiment has changed to fuck a trophy we need a better league season.
Putting all my bias aside, I honestly believe Ange will be staying. He has performed, contractually, perfectly. In his 2 seasons he has returned us to European football, won a European trophy and qualified for the riches of the CL.
Irrespective of your thoughts on our league performances, he absolutely has earned the right to start the season.
It seems though it’s a case of damned if you do and damned if you don’t for a lot on here.

Indeed. NOBODY would have expected after losing Harry Kane that within 2 seasons we would be back in the Champions League and have our first major trophy in 41 years.

I completely agree, it was an unorthodox approach. However, Ange needed to guarantee winning Europa, and that meant taking some risks.

- VDV didn't return to playing when he was fit - instead they focused on his technique and conditioning to prevent future injury.
- Richarlison & Romero weren't risked in League games and were protected to ensure they were 100% for Europa League games.

As it turns out, VDV made a match winning goal line clearance; and Richarlison / Romero put in MOTM performances on the night.

Next season we cannot have the same approach - and that means we must have players at the level required - and that really means at least 18 players who aren't "backups" or kids - but are all starters.

I agree with most of your general observations.

However, how can a manager's right to remain in a very well-paid job not be determined by the vast majority of games they've overseen? Many of which were awful to watch and reflected very little football progress. You cannot ignore what is staring you in the face.

I haven't seen enough from Ange in the meat of the season to suggest that he's an adaptive tactician. I'm also not convinced that buying better players will necessarily guarantee us greater success with his system either, which I admittedly don't really enjoy watching. Due respect to Ange for the cup win, but the league honestly felt like watching someone learning on the job.

Which bits shite?

The club wanted Champs League and a Trophy - they don't give 2 shits about being 17th for 1 season and missing out on 20m prize money - a worthwhile loss.

The fans wanted Champs League and a Trophy.

The league performances were a kick in the teeth - especially to season ticket holders. The alternative was likely 6th-8th, no trophy and no champions league next season.

The same thing happened with Sheringham. He went to Man United in the summer of 97 because he wanted to win trophies and neither of us won anything in 97/98. Then in 98/99, United won their Treble and we won the Worthington Cup just like Kane won his Bundesliga this season and we won the Europa League.

The only difference is that I think Kane would have missed winning the Europa League with us a lot more than Sheringham would have missed winning the Worthington Cup with us. I don't think he would have had a Son moment with that Bundesliga.

the Alternative could have been Play more defensive in the league (once Ange decided to sack off the League) resting the players as he did, that way we may have got 10th (THAT'S NOT 17th) and won the EL

I'm in a real quandary.
Do I put all the lunatic Angebois on ignore, or do I keep foul voting them until admin actually do something?

I'm starting to think Admin are all Angebois too, arguing on his behalf no matter what with that blank look on their face when evidence is presented.

Can we foul vote admin?

It’s funny. Levy’s idea was that when the dust settles and the emotions of the EL settles down, the league results would make people want Ange sacked

But as always with Levy, he’s completely misunderstood people because now the dust has settled and people are seeing how much more ambition other clubs have for the league, they care less and less about the league form and the significance and timelessness of that EL trophy only gets more and more valuable to us.

When it comes to strange, I don't think there is anything unusual in being overjoyed at winning a cup but being very concerned by such a pitiful overall performance in the league. Domestic league performance is the best marker of how good/strong a team actually is and in most other seasons we would have been fighting a relegation battle.

The reason I question Ange's competence at this level is because he was willing to throw his attacking principles out of the window to win the EL with a very decent squad but did not show the same pragmatic, tenacious approach when a lot of our best players were unavailable to stop us sinking in the league. We looked devoid of structure and form for so much of the season. We became easy to beat. His 'we never stop' approach caked away and he was exceptionally poor at adapting to the challenges our B team faced. And folk can argue his case but, as always in football, the results have the final word.

I'll always be grateful to him and the players for getting us the EL trophy - it is what I wanted more than anything, no doubts. But this isn't a game played on one stage. The bread and butter is the PL and we need someone who can navigate us through it at a higher level if we're to maintain our standing as one of the big PL teams.

If Levy shows me the club gives a shit about winning the league then I’ll care about pragmatism from the coach for results.

If not then I’m fine with a coach going hell for leather and trying to entertain in the league

We could win the EL and cups so those more pragmatic performances in knockout football made sense.
