Moderation should mean we can expect moderate results though?

I meant attack in moderation, not fully gung ho unless we desperately need a goal near the end of a match, it's ok to pass the ball around at the back when teams are playing a low block and not intensely pressing us. It's okay to play it long sometimes like we were doing in the Europa League final, and simply be less predictable, let Richarlison and/or Solanke try and win the long balls that are played out from the back.

Postecoglou has shown he can set up the team either way but he didn't seem to play like we did in some of the cup matches, in the league. He said he sets up differently for cup matches but I don't see why?

IMO it's sensible for a manager to batten down the hatches and make it difficult to score for the opposition when the team is plagued with injuries. He been sticking to his own principles in the Premier League instead of what's best for the team, even a few draws instead of loses would be an improvement.

I didn't like the ear cupping or his arguments with supporters, nor his management of Spence, and slagging of Werner publicly on television.

Agree with most of that mate. If he’s got players fit to play his style of football, he should do it, even if it’s more counter attacking like the City wins and Liverpool home leg.

But of he doesn’t have them fit then he should put the result above his philosophy

I agree but Frank is a pragmatic manager who will find it hard to have a role for Maddison.

His preferred formation has always been 3-4-3 and Maddison won't suit that.
This isn't entirely true mate... Frank has utilised Damsgaard very well this season as he did when he bought Eriksen in, Mathias Jensen is also more a creative player. He does use them.

He actually prefers a 433, but utilises a 532 when he usually plays a top club since he been in prem.

You'd think someone earning £5m per year would know that already. He can't treat Spurs as if we're a dominant team in the league like Celtic are in Scotland.

But we are dominant in 80% of games, it makes sense to play that way in most games just not when your entire team is injured

I meant Celtic have superior players to rest of the teams in Scotland. We're not like that in our league. Even when most of the injured players were back we lost just about every PL game,

In this link below is the PL table from 22nd December 2024, we've played 17 matches and are on 23 points, it means for the remaining 21 matches we only achieved 15 points.

He was playing heavily rotated lineups in those games.

And in that case, then you have a point, if you are playing a heavily rotated lineup, they either need to be good enough to play plan A or you use plan b with them.

Maybe you can make the argument that long term you want to play Plan A with the rotated lineups so you need to accept the rough results whilst they learn.

I get why fans would be pissed paying tickets to watch players learn on the job. If we didn’t get the EL trophy, it would have been a catastrophic backfire

Even when all the players are fit we're not like Celtic are in Scotland or PSG are in France, We're not the top dogs in our league. He wants us to be attacking like 1970's Brazil, There's not many easy matches for us that we can just forget about defending and go full on charge, have our CBs on the half way line, and the full backs in full attack mode.

Again, it can and has worked against most teams in the PL when we’ve had our back 4 and GK fit

A few misconceptions on here about Frank - his teams aren't really defensive, they rely on a counter-attack strategy quite a lot, and score and concede plenty of goals, which might make those who want a more secure defence after the Ange chaos a bit edgy...

He's in the 'OK but not exciting' bracket for me in terms of appointments. We could do a lot worse - what he's done with Brentford is very worthy of respect. I also feel he will be a much better representative of the club than Ange - very erudite, charming, and not likely to pick daft fights with supporters etc. It does feel for me though a rather pragmatic appointment rather than a step change up, if that makes sense.

I see a lot of people saying that he would raise our floor but not our ceiling, but how do we know what Frank's ceiling is when he's manager of Brentford? Brentford's ceiling is a lot lower than ours.

A lot of people are sleeping on just how big an achievement it is getting Brentford established as a top half PL team with the resources at his disposal.

I guess my main concern is does Frank fit us? I really don't know the answer to that - I guess he will have useful experience of working on a budget.
