That's not due to possibly appointing Frank though.
Put Klopp in charge and we still wouldn't win the premier league.
We need major investment in the team, along with an overhaul of recruitment, coaching and medical staff.
That's why Frank makes sense, he's done an excellent job at Brentford with limited resources. Until we have the elements in place to support a 'big' manager, we need someone who can develop players, is tactally fluid, and most importantly can work within constraints.

Ange was a poor fit because he is none of those things.

A manager like Klopp, since you mentioned him, probably would not work either. He would loom too large over the board, and would command major investments in top level players, investments Levy won't want to make. We've already been down this road with a manager who wouldn't stand for complacency.

However if you get someone like Frank in, who can immediately do better and may be able to get us back to being CL regulars again, maybe Levy won't do what he did with Poch, starving a club of investment that was so close to reaching the summit.

He didn't repeat his mistake of sacking Jose before a final, even though Ange richly deserved to be sacked all year long. Maybe he will learn from his mistakes with Poch as well.

I don’t think Klopp would win the league but he is a rare manager in terms of getting a lot out of players, I think Pep however would be a total disaster under ENIC. Hence the why Pochettino was such a perfect fit and Redknapp did a good job, the right amount of flexibility.

I think in Ange we hired a type of manager whose system might have worked if we had the 1-3rd strongest squad in the league, you need elite out and out wingers, very physically dominate CB’s as a well as a top DM, we only had the CB’s and they where mostly injured. He changed it up for the EL and won a trophy but I don’t think he would have been happy playing like that all the time.

I have no idea if Frank will be good. If he is flexible and good at developing players it will work, if not we should get Poch back next summer. We are stuck like this while ENIC is our owner.

Exactly my thoughts. ENIC can still play the Poch card after the WC and the vast majority of fans will welcome it and praise them for "bringing him home".

Its a sad state of affairs that we are already thinking about the next manager after the one who hasnt even been appointed yet, though

No of course it's not. The appointment would be confirmation of the club's limited ambition. That's the point, bluey.

You mention Klopp....The appointment of Klopp would indicate an ambition to at least compete for the title. An aim a club of our size, wealth and fanbase should always aspire to.

The appointment of Frank does no such thing. It indicates the opposite. Which is why I couldn't endorse it.

JT you’ve been a spurs fan under ENIC for long enough that you know the bolded is simply not true.

We appointed Conte, who was still considered a big name manager, but did it in the most ENIC way possible and didn’t provide him with the tools needed
If we’d appoint Klopp you know as well as I do that it wouldn’t indicate any shift of ambition, it would be to placate the fan base.

Unless something really changes with the mentality of the ownership we will not consistently challenge for the league.

That's a real shame but I'm happy the club saw him as a candidate. He probably did right to avoid us he'll have bigger/better offers

I agree about the limited ambition. However it doesn't make Frank a bad manager, it's actually the sensible choice.

So while you might not endorse it because you feel Levy should open the purse strings, invest heavily into the infrastructure and pay huge money to get Klopp.....given that none of that is going to happen, we should endorse Frank as someone who will probably do well given the constraints that Levy will most likely put on him.

The heart rules the head with Poch. I'd love him back. I think all Spurs fans would!

But it's worth remembering that we were a mess in the 19/20 season before we sacked him and Poch hasn't done a good job anywhere since then. He does feel like he's slowly becoming a beaten flush! Don't get me wrong I'd still have him back here but it's literally just heart over head. I'd know deep down we'd be making a mistake.

The more emotional and irrational amongst us aren’t ready for it but Ange is a Spurs legend. Poch is nearly a legend

I hope we win the next 20 PL titles straight, roll PSG 8-0, and put a last minute goal past Woolwich to relegate them next season.....however we need to be realistic, the club is not in a position to do that. You could create a Ferguson/Pep/Ancelotti hybrid and they wouldn't get the job done because the thing holding us back at Spurs isn't the manager, it's way deeper.

So having unrealistic expectations of what a new manager can achieve, is only going to end one way....the same way we've seen 15 times already under Levy.

Yeah, it's like dating a girl who was checking out other blokes towards the end because you didn't fulfil her desires, and it doesn't work out.

However, you love her, she's back on the market, and you hope things would be different this time despite all the circumstances being the same.

Ultimately though if you don't buy her the flowers and expensive gifts she craves, her eyes will probably wander again!

Don’t agree. He did a good job with Chelsea two years ago. Sorted out a real mess and had them playing well by the end of the season. PSG’s side was just way too unbalanced and he had no control with that front three who just had the power to do what they wanted.

It’s not really a surprise he’s struggling at the start with the USA. It always takes him a while to drill in his ideas to a side.
