It's not though. For one, it produces banger matches every time the Finals roll around. And every side puts out the best squad out there, unlike The Olympics (the real nothing trophy/competition). Is it as prestigious as the Euros? Obviously not, but it's still a decent tournament, especially when the Finals start being played.
FIFA rankings are a bit meaningless though, which is why the keep fiddling with the algorith. Spain, for example, are 2nd in the rankings right now. They've not won a World Cup since 2010. They just lost to 7th place Portgual.
England are 4th but have only ever won one trophy. On the same token, Southgate took England to two Euro finals and a WC semi final, so is clear as England's 2nd most successful manager, but people talk about him (esp. on here lately) like he's Steve Kean.
If Martinez managed England and won the Nations League, he'd be quite rightly lauded for it - even if it is a weird friendly cup, it'd be doubling England's honours
FIFA Rankings are the same in the video games they churn out as well

The bloke has never even scored a knockout stage goal in any World Cup he has played in his prime.
If he wins it next year he will do so by piggy backing off Portugal’s most talented side ever.

His NT record is not particularly good. He’s managed two extremely talented teams (this Portugal side is easily top 3 currently talent wise, his Belgium team was stacked) and will naturally have a high win % as most games as a top NT are against dross. He’s always fallen short at major tournaments.
The Nations league is another excuse to invent a competition to make money. At national level you’re judged on the World Cup or main regional tournament. This shit is the Audi Cup of internationals.

I know Rodri is injured and take that into account but him aside is Vitinha the best midfielder in world. He just seems to be incredible every game, comparisons to Modric or Xavi seem fair with how he plays. Even playing against Pedri or playing next to Neves he just seems a level above.
It is still consistently much higher than England's best win rate, 66% Capello and 62% Southgate. I wouldn't say England have had a worse squad than Portugal or Belgium, nor have they had harder games.
I struggle to come up with anyone better that's for certain.
