A lot of us wanted the all out attacking philosophy to work with Ange.

Good to hear other opinions. Doesn't mean you have to agree with them.

I like Nathan because he gets into the tactic weeds and bring up potential transfer names i've never heard of.

The weird thing is that the initial attacking philosophy wasn't a bust at all - it just had a few flaws which teams exploited once they became obvious. Most of those issues could have been ironed out by a tactically proficient manager, things such as:
  • Vary the pass out from the back - throw in a longer ball every now and again
  • Don't overload the attack once the opposition are in defensive position - they will simply double up on someone (usually Son) and dispossess for a fast break
  • Don't play Porro behind attacking players AND expect him to bomb forward, it'll leave huge gaps at right back. Ensure that defensive areas are covered if out of position.
  • Don't play the ball down the wing if the recieving player doesn't have space to run into. You'll just end up losing the ball for a throw in.
  • When moving the ball through midfield, the passing player should run towards the recieving player if they are under pressure in order to provide an immediate return ball which can be recycled to Spurs players free from the press.
None of these things are rocket science. Angeball was 80% of the way there towards being an effective system but he just didn't seem to know how to fix the issues.

If Frank stubbornly stuck to one idea of football, ie, the football Brentford played in the Championship. He'd have probably been given a bigger job a couple years before now a-la Vincent Kompany. His willingness to play in a low block and counter against more powerful opposition at times has led to people writing him off as that kind of coach. When really that versatility is one of the reasons Brentford have punched above their weight during their time in the Premier League. That's what a good manager does. They take care of their club over their own image.

The club World Cup runs until mid-July. If PSG get to the final (and they’re the best team in it) they’ll only just have returned to pre-season training by the time the UEFA Super Cup is played. We’ll smash them as they’ll be undercooked. That would make us the lineal champions of the world!

I'd expect Gooners or the Chavs to downplay it as just a poor trophy, not a Spurs fan....... any way if you can't enjoy a night like that then i actually feel sorry for ya, I'm still buzzing we won it, couldn't give a fuck if we drew 0-0 in the final and won by a pen shootout, any way lets look forward to Frank

Great post. Properly put fat twat Matt in his place.

Good luck to Frank. Assuming he is our manager, it’s an extraordinarily inexperienced hire. He’s only managed at two senior level clubs. At Brøndby he left in pretty poor circumstances and at Brentford he got the job via the back door of being assistant manager. Both those clubs are small in comparison to us and both with very limited expectations.

He’s never won a trophy and hasn’t managed in Europe beyond failed Europa League qualification attempts. I don’t think he’s played much at any decent level. Ryan Mason had arguably experienced far greater in his coaching and management career.

I’m guessing that the way things went with Mou and Conte especially have burnt bridges with elite level coaches but honestly this is such an underwhelming hire. Many felt the same with Ange so let’s see how it all goes.

The club has a taste for winning now and we should rightly demand that it continues. We pay among the highest prices in world football and that should, with all the income being put in, be warranting top level recruitment both on and off the pitch. Right now, the whole package looks very mediocre.
Lots to agree with there, esp at the end.
Inexperience tho. In the PL he’s managed over 100 matches. And a further 100 or so in championship which is a real dog eat dog league. He took over from Dean Smith and BFC mist thank their lucky star he did.
Re the PL that was 108:0 matches compared to Ange when he came.

And Europe a very different challenge where he has zero. I’d have tipped him to do very well in the Europa as no CL drop ins. No getting away that CL and PL will be a challenge. But he’s a very intelligent guy and thinks things thru a lot.

It was a shame that Ancelotti took the Brazil job; he’s proven class.

It's not a poor competition. It's a good way to weed out the real spurs fans from the trolls though.

1. Real spurs fans say they're STILL buzzing and it's a major european trophy. #europeanchampions

2. Trolls/Gooners in disguise - poor competition, not major trophy, fluked the entire thing, doesn't deserve celebrating, not in the least bit excited.

Anyone who falls in the latter category (like twat1882) should be banned from the forum. Anyone who reacts negatively to this post is obviously in the second category too and should likewise be banned.
Derailing a bit here, but I know a few Gooners, work colleagues, not Friends and they all said how jealous they are off us winning a major European Trophy , would have expected them to try with the "not a major trophy" bollox but they actually all said how they wish it was them that had won a European Trophy.

Any way we have this smiley now, and it will be my default reply when someone tries to Trophy shame us!

didn't know we had a poster called twat1882 - how did I miss that

Well put. We also didn't have the players he wanted for the specific roles or the depth to handle the PL and multiple comps.

Mate guys like you are not spoiling the moment for those who really got off winning our first trophy for a long while!
Its a funny old game though, I know Ange couldn't continue because of the league form, but who knows what winning a major European Trophy will do to this young squad, you always hear people say you need experienced winners in your squad to win things, well Frank has that now and he has another chance to win a trophy in a few months, If i was a betting man I would say we won't be waiting 17 years for the next trophy!

Guy that phoned talksport summed it up Friday
"all those people who ignore the 22 losses were more likely out shopping with the mrs and saw the result after the game"

For those of us that lived it, saw how bad we were, how comprehensively we were beaten and that 1 goal losses hid the true horror, it can't be ignored.
BRILLIANT. This articulates a feeling I've never managed to surmise. Oh just focus on the Europa win. Thousands of pounds spent up and down the country watching us get hummped. It matters to the mugs standing in the rain as the players applaud another surrender and 'Big' Ange tries to convince you it's all a cunning plan. These people support the team in a kind of tangential on line way.
