I always thought Carrick should have been paired with either Gerrard or Scholes. And it should have been Lampard or Rooney supporting Owen. No harm being able to bring the two left out as a sub, or rotating. The irony to me, is you put Scholes in the middle and Lampard wide and we'd have looked better.
In general though, this is where I started losing interest in England. It became about star names all being squeezed into the 11 no matter what. Beckham, by this stage, was not much threat outside of corners and free kicks.
Then again, what other English right wingers were there?
I think Frank is very good – you can’t question what he’s done at Brentford over 6-7 years, it’s highly impressive. He’s erudite and will handle the media lot more smoothly than Ange. I do wonder what the brief is: winning a trophy isn’t enough so presume a strong champions league run? Also how much money to spend? There’s a talk of takeover which will be interesting, I imagine his ability to work with a tight budget is what attracted Levy…
I'm very pro youth development, that's why I started the youth thread - but also want to balance that up with players able to perform now.
Up front we have 18 year olds Moore and Yang, and a couple younger to come through. Tel has done nothing much to impress - despite Tel being 2 years older than Moore I'm not convinced he is much better now, other than maybe physical development which can change quickly at age 18/19. My guess is that 2026/27 Moore will be a far better player than Tel as Moore will have physically developed, 2025/26 Moore is still developing.
Son may be good for another year - but more a once a week player rather than weekend, mid week etc. So if we get a big fee for him (lets say £50m + I think he goes and we try to replace at say £80m. Whether that happens is a total unknown.
But we cannot afford to find ourselves with a Tel with no goal/assist output as he showed this season, a declining Son, a developing Moore and an ever injured Richarlison making up half our forwards.
Hence not taking up the option on Tel but finding a more experienced forward able to deliver now, with Son's future I think in the balance (stay or go) and needing to replace Richarlison. That then allows us to further develop Moore and others without undue pressure as well s having a set of decent forwards for now,
At 8m he stays as he's capable of playing once a week or more and be a threat to opposition
Damsgaard isn't better than Maddison or Kulusevski. I think his name has been blown up a bit on here since Frank came in. He is very good but not eliteMbuemo would be an excellent start to the summer. Wouldn't say no to Damsgaard either as long as he can stay clear of injuries.
Honestly don't know why anyone would consider United. It's a graveyard for players, with a manager so stubborn he wouldn't change from his formation if his wife's life depended on it.
Give him him juicy achievable bonuses and he gets CL, lush facilities and his favourite manager to continue working with.If true that he is willing to accept lower wages to come to Spurs with Frank that is a huge plus for me, says he's sold on the project and would only have gone to United for silly money due to the risk of the move not working out.
There's something wrong with him, isn't there?
I wouldn't want him near any sharp items if United let him down. Which is more common than ever.
Romero isn't. He will be sold by us or leave on a free
Mbeumo and hjalmund for meDamsgaard isn't better than Maddison or Kulusevski. I think his name has been blown up a bit on here since Frank came in. He is very good but not elite
They are living off the status they built over many years of Ferguson reign.Honestly don't know why anyone would consider United. It's a graveyard for players, with a manager so stubborn he wouldn't change from his formation if his wife's life depended on it.
This has paratici all over it
No idea mate.
Personally I am not that keen on Mbuemo. Brentford isn't Tottenham or Manchester United.
Often a whole different pressure which crushes seemingly string minds.
Brentford took treble the points off the top six than Spurs did last season.

Meh, let's pay forty odd million for Tel and his "lucky" bandage , and stick him out on the right.
