You can't do this kind of history and not draw the distinction between Hitchen and what has happened since.

We've bought a lot of high-floor, low-ceiling, good-but-not-great players post-Hitchen in a way that gets a bit frustrating and feels like running in place, but we absolutely flushed money down the toilet with Hitchen and it has taken years to clean away the totally useless garbage he filled the squad with.

Our deadwood is nowhere near as dead as it was in 2021.

Hitchen was a disaster and it reflects badly on Levy how a scout kept getting promoted to end up as de facto DoF. Whilst its improved a notch there really havent been any stellar signings in the last 5 years either. In the interim other clubs scouting and data have improved dramatically.

True. I was trying to steer away from the current squad, as Ange made them all look like useless flops in a short space of time.

Personally, I don't think the current squad is anywhere near as bad as some want to suggest. It is just overdue another flush of players we're still hoping will work out but clearly won't.
For me that is Bissouma and probably Bentancur in place of a reliable and consistent CM. Ideally one that doesn't huff balloons and racially aggravate his team mates :pochshock:

Isn't Micky Van De Ven a pretty stellar signing?

If we're going value for money surely Udogie qualifies? And excellent early returns on Bergvall for even cheaper?

Madders and Porro are really good players we got for fair prices.

There was not a single acquisition like that under Hitchen, we didn't even manage a Bentancur or Vicario-level decent, reliable PL player. Lucas Moura and PEH were his two best.

27 years old, 3 England caps...obviously never scored.

I like big Dom and I respect how hard he works, but if we were a serious club that genuinely wanted to challenge for top honours he'd be nowhere near our squad, let alone first XI. He's a West Ham or Everton type player really.

Couldn’t agree more. Some Spurs fans will never cease to amaze me at their ability to delude themselves into thinking we can’t improve on a player.

City, Woolwich, Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle, even Villa and United wouldn’t have him anywhere near their main striker.
So why should we? These are the clubs we want to compete with right? Our chairman said so. “We want to win the Premier League. We want to win the Champions League.”

Solanke is a great worker and seems a top bloke, but when you pay 65 million for a striker I’m sorry you need more than that.

I mean Bournemouth replaced him with Evanilson, who cost half the price, scored more goals and came from, yep, the Portuguese League, yet people were slating me yesterday for saying Viktor Gyokeres would be an upgrade on Solanke. :franksmile:

They’ve missed out on williams to Barcelona and want a left winger so it isn’t a huge leap to think they’d target Eze. I agree though. The account knows a few things.
