Article The Curious Case of Dele Alli

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It’s just wishful thinking. Everyone wants to see a happy ending but real life is rarely like that.

He’s probably doing himself more harm pleading for yet another last chance. I think mentally it shows he isn’t coming to terms with where he is in life.
I don't see what he said shows that he hasn't come to terms with anything just expressing a heartfelt regret but hey I'm not a psychologist :)

Unless he is already broke and therefore needs every penny he can squeeze from the game until he physically can't do it anymore, he's better off retiring at this point.

What's the point of allowing yourself to get passed around like a tissue?

That made me cry. It’s all so heartbreaking. Wish we could give him a shot - fans still singing his song in Bilboa said so much. What’s the point in football, nay, life if we can’t make decisions sentimentally.

Its sad to look at what happened, but Dele was responsible for it. He was given multiple chances by the club; but chose to stay out at night drinking, taking drugs, partying. Late for training, not putting in the effort, distracting over players with his antics.

At the end of the day, he was an immature prick, who got away with it when things were going well, but when he needed to put his head down and ditch the partying, he turned it up to 11 and instead preferred to get sucked off by hookers on TikTok.

Bit strong. He came to the pro game very young and a lot of factors derailed him. He'd been sexually abused as a kid and had a bit of a rough upbringing that came flooding to the surface in adulthood. Couple that with the incredible pressure of being an elite level player at that age, hamstring injuries, pill addiction, being burgled and assaulted ... quite a few factors in play.

You can make a case that he was immature, but I don't think that, on the whole, he was being a 'prick' (that stupid covid vid aside). It was a pressure cooker situation that he couldn't mentally deal with.

Popping painkillers and sleeping pills. Sitting in nightclubs at 3am when he has training the next day. Partying with hookers in hotel rooms. The guy was still dealing drugs whilst he was at MK Dons.

Yeah....he's a prick; and in typical behavior of a prick - it's everyone else's fault.

He said that many people around him were trying to help him. Does that sound like someone who's blaming other people?

Sad but true.

In seriousness, it's amazing how much wisdom there was in what Jose said to him. It's such a stark parallel to life, in general, where one day you're a kid thinking "bore off old man", the next you're a man wondering what happened
It was THE moment of All Or Nothing. I admit to re-watching it.

That and the great inspirational leader D.Levy giving a quiet pep talk to Tanguy

I bet you're fun at parties.

:pochshock:

People glibly overlooking what being sexual assaulted as a child does to folk. That he chose to self medicate is not in the least bit unusual. That he burned as brightly for however short a time tells you how strong he was. We have your back Dele. Just find some peace.
