Crossing is Udogie's single biggest weakest. He needs to work relentlessly on it on the training ground
It's not really that difficult a skill to learn, I was crap at football when I played for a crap local team at his age but I could still put in a half decent cross some of the time. It's bizarre that he's so poor at it, should be a box standard skill for any outfield professional footballer in any league to have mastered, even as a child in an academy. It doesn't have to be Hoddle like pinpoint accuracy to get the ball near where there's a teammate.

Don't think he knows how to lift the ball off the ground. Cement boots.

Just had a gooner telling me he'd be happy if they were trying to sign him. Maybe I'm misjudging it. He said Kudus was great against them when they lost to West Ham.

edit: just having a look at his highlights in that game and he looks like a pest. Can hold the ball up well and looks likely. I really wonder if we are looking at him as a player who can play in a variety of positions including up front. If he can finish he is pretty similar to the Brentford forwards of last season.

"Not good enough" implies that he's good, but that he has limitations. I don't think that's incorrect or harsh, but you're entitled to your opinion...and we all know what you're like with your faves but eh oh.

Do I start Udogie if my aim is to finish top 6-10? Yep. Do I start him if I'm serious about challenging for the title? Nope. Again, that's just something called my opinion and I'm basing it on what I've seen to date.

In the next 2 seasons, I’m expecting Udogie to be the consensus #1 LB in the Premier League.

And I don’t think that’s a particularly hot take. Kerkez being his biggest contender.

There were links to City before they went Ait-Nouri because they know he’s already a better all round LB and has a much higher ceiling

The only defender that is absolutely 'irreplaceable' at our club is Micky Van de Ven imo. Romero is very good though on his day and at least worth £60m in today's market. If he really wants to go? Good luck!

It's not so much the letting him go that is the problem. It is who we bring in to replace him. You just know it will be someone who is a drop in quality or it will be Danso who is the replacement.

He’s good, but we have loads of 8s. We need a 6 who breaks up play.

Agree and ideally a 6 who breaks up play and passes the ball to an elite level.

The sure thing players like that are outside our economic model.

Either we take a punt on Agoume or Lange tries to dig one out from his spreadsheets in an obscure league somewhere…

Or

We get Rios type who can carry and pass as an 8 and utilize Bentancur and Sarr as the destroyer types next to Rios and Bergvall

Tel/Son/Odo/Moore/Yang

vs

Johnson/Kulu/Odo

One side is clearly lacking depth and quality compared to the other one

Besides all that assuming that Eze will just fit on the left side is half the problem especially as he's not a natural left winger...

I mean on paper it sounds great, not really about 'gelling' more about what roles both players will have defined for one another.

If you watch how Eze plays he floats around the pitch and picks the ball up in different areas, this is exactly what you want your 10 doing, so where does that leave Maddison? I'm unsure what you mean when you say Maddison comes deeper, if you want Maddison to get out of Eze's way then you can't class him as a left winger, therin lies the problem in itself.

For Woolwich where do you think he plays? He's not a runner or an outlet like Martinelli and isn't defensively diligent. He's not a CMF either so can't see him playing as a left 8 and he's a totally different profile to Odegaard, doesn't have the passing range or through balls as Odegaard, nor can he press like him? Personally I don't think they're really in for him like that and it's typical Woolwich PR...could be wrong though 🤷

Secondly they can probably afford to risk it more than us anyway hence my reluctance on blowing the money on him compared to a clear profile fit we are in more need of.

That's what Kulu is for!

Higher progressive carries and more successful take ons, much more touches in the penalty box than Eze although Eze is a better goal threat than him (probably down to the role he has at Palace playing off Mateta)

They're actually remarkably similar players, Eze looks a lot sexier though I suppose and he's far better at beating a man from a standing position but the role you want Eze to do you have a ready made player there in Kulu if you want to stick him in the 10.

This by the way is coming off a shambolic season led by a coach by all accounts who wasn't good enough and where the players downed tools compared to a Palace team led by a coach who our fanbase wanted and got a lot stronger when the season went on.
Yang and Moore are young, one of them will go out on loan maybe both. I’d say there’s a good chance Son leaves this summer and even if he doesn’t he’s got one year left and his ability to work shooting angles and get shots off has dropped off a cliff. I’m really struggling to see one side lacking depth and quality over the other. There’s enough depth there there’s just a lack of quality on both sides.

Quality is what you’d get from Eze. You’re saying he’s not a natural left winger and then list Tel, Son who are more inside forwards and Moore and Yang who drift and dribble inside onto their stronger foot as quality and depth options on the left.

Eze might float around the pitch now but for QPR and under Hodgson he played on the left, even now he starts wide and then might drift in with or without the ball. I can’t see Frank or any football manager not working with that and he’s going to have to as some of those quality and depth options you listed on the left are like that and they are all different. Maybe Odobert being maybe what you might see as a natural winger.

Maddison, always starts deeper helps us progress the ball from defence through midfield, he’s not really a ten in the sense he just stays in front of the opposition defence looking for the ball, he’s really a scheming midfielder, moves all around that area. He doesn’t get in Kulusveskis way when he plays on the right and he likes to drift in and that’s really what woul happen with Eze on the left. I’m struggling with this idea that players will get in each others way. Footballs a bit more intuitive than that. When you’re playing you’re naturally finding the spaces and where you should be. If Madder drops deeper then maybe one of the wide players will move more inside to give that vertical passing option, if he picks it up further forward players can hold their width more as a starting position,

footballs more about attributes than anything. It’s a moot point because it doesn’t look like he’s coming here but Eze would have really given us that great ball retention and ability to open up space in the final third. Oh well

Seems to be a lack of quality DMs available in the market this summer. Palhinha? Luiz? Both have their risks. Not really seeing or hearing any credible links to any more.

Plus we seem to be stockpiling CBs.

Does this mean we aren’t in the market for a DM as we are going to be playing 3/5 at the back?

How confident would everyone be if this is how we went into the new season, with our midfield options still being Bent, Biss, Sarr, Berg and maybe Gray?
