Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Was a nice day out but even your mate Dan puts CL and PL in a separate category.

Call it what you want. The point remains that we are now miles off competing at the top of the game having fallen behind the scum.
Tis a subjective matter and purely up to the individual to decide preference true, what cannot be denied is that the PL, LC & FA cup are all domestic honours whilst the CL, EL & ECL are all European honours.

One thing in common with all of them is they are all regarded by the record keepers as major honours regardless of their pecking order. Like most I list them in the order of CL,PL,EL,FAC,LC and ECL for the question of prestige and with the exception of the ECL I'd be happy to lift any of them keeping in mind others might think otherwise.

Unfortunately we don't get the ability to choose beforehand which or when a trophy is likely to be raised therefore I find it curious that a 3 season period of decline against a hated rival somehow cancels out the fact that we actually won something more important than an argument on a message board.

We all know the reason for falling behind and it is a matter way beyond our control. That said why would anyone with an IQ higher than a ball bearing attempt to denigrate or mock the winning of a trophy the likes of which they hadn't seen since Noah was a boy? There (Poch era) was a time when I put league position above winning a cup but after so long of being 'nearly' I changed my mind for the beginning of last season and I don't regret it for one minute.

sure but it doesn't change the fact that this is part of levy's playbook. if he can get the player to kick up a fuss and say he only wants spurs he can knock down the price a bit. but that puts the pressure on the player to burn bridges he may not feel comfortable doing and i think it's pathetic for a club of our size pursuing top players
Now you're making assumptions.

You have no idea about what the discussions have been, any more than I do. So far, Kudus hasn't handed in a transfer request, so where is he "kicking up a fuss?" He wants to go to Tottenham allegedly, isn't that a criteria we all welcome? How can we have fans on here saying we only want players that WANT to be here, then dig out the club when they're bidding for a player that does exactly that?

FYI, Real Madrid have been accused of encouraging players to run their contract down so they can sign them on a free. Liverpool tapped up VVD. Woolwich are getting Gyokeres to reduce his wage demands, Simeone has apparently been calling Romero regularly, yet you've been strangely silent on that, but are willing to take our club to task based on nothing but your imagination?

Seriously mate...

So I had a humorous thought.
It seems united have stalled on Mbueno. They haven’t come back with any other offers after the bees rejected 62 mil second offer and it’s now gone quiet

So we jump in offer 65 mil, get Mbueno, tell spam we’re not taking kudus.
The delicious irony of spam still being close to PSR trouble and no 60 mil to buy anyone, us getting Mbeuno whils manure miss out.

Yes it’s a fantasy but fuck I’d laugh.
Love the plan but the only issue is Mbeumo wants United and that plush 200k+ a week contract. Not sure he's interested in champions league football which surprised me really. He seems like an honest player but he wants that Man United move. Had multiple clubs enquire for him with CL and he told them all he only wants United

no i'm not in the room so yes i'm making assumptions but they're based on the player suddenly coming out and saying he only wants spurs in the midst of a back and forth negotiations. i don't think i'm in left field here. i'm guessing this plays out for another week or so until we eventually sign him for a bit under the release clause or the player gets impatient with the process and fucks off to another club who isn't asking him to squeeze wham for a few quid

It's the typical baffling stuff I see on the internet all the time.

Step 1: Invent scenario that hasn't actually happened.
Step 2: Get angry at club for above scenario that was invented out of thin air.

e.g. "We should probably sign {player}, but we wouldn't pay what the club wanted. If we did, it would be with stupid add-ons. And then we'd haggle at the last minute. And then we'd low ball the player. And then the player would refuse to leave. FFS why don't we act like a big club - we do this all the time*"

Good post. Though the Ange-in boys were/are IMO wrong that it was, under Ange, sustainable. It wasn't. We were sliding. Fast.

That said, I do think we should take every cup game seriously and go full strength, unless there is a a very specific circumstance that justifies resting a few on the bench - playing a League Two team at home or whatever.

Got AI to write us a nice Poem:

Bargains and Dreams

Lange charts stars in distant skies,
With scouting notes and hopeful eyes.
“Talent’s out there, ready-made—
Just give me room, a deal well-played.”

But Levy frowns and shakes his head,
“The books are tight, spend hope instead.
No fancy bids, no big-time spree—
Find someone good… and nearly free.”

So Lange, undaunted, scans once more,
Past shining names with price tags sore.
Then grins a bit, a plan appears—
A name from Tottenham’s younger years.

“Kyle Walker-Peters,” he softly hums,
“Not too pricey, and still he runs.”
A call is made, a whisper sent—
A full-back fix that won't break rent.

For in this tale of tight-laced schemes,
Cheap heroes drive the dearest dreams.
Airfixx wept when he read this

It's so beautiful

Well, they didn't do that exactly, did they?

They signed Jesus, then Havertz, then no one.

Then they signed Gyokeres
Jesus elevated them at a lower price point.

I'm also a longtime Havertz defender, but I take the point.

Still, and this gets to the Kudus thing, all of Jesus, Havertz, and Gyokeres had ceilings as elite players when Woolwich bought them.

Richy, Solanke and Kudus are all good players, but they have always been flawed in a way that means they will never even approach world class. I just don't see how it makes sense to be in that price range for players like that when just a *little* higher breaks into another tier.

Penny wise, pound foolish. All tactics, no strategy. The eternal refrains.

You're right. It's completely irrational. He won't be a better player for costing 50m instead of 65m so as a fan, why the heck should it matter.
We ain't 'doing a Leeds' , mate
The rational answers would be saving money to make other purchases and the larger fee invested in Kudus making him harder to shift down the line if we want/need to.

But honestly, I just feel like a total mug near doubling West Ham's investment and paying a club record fee for a player as limited as Kudus. We'd be getting ripped off and I HATE getting ripped off.

Kudus has a higher ceiling than Richy/Solanke imo.
I do agree with this, but not an elite, PL Team of the Season ceiling, and he has a lower floor too.

I dunno, I feel like this deal is going to happen and Kudus is such a crowd-pleasing player that I know I'll wind up enjoying him, but he just has not played well enough at West Ham to go from 38M to 60, it's purely exploitation of our CL windfall, and it's so stupid to allow the Spam to leech off us like that.

i'll be quite happy if it works and we get him for considerably less than what they're asking but i also think getting it done before the season starts rather than stringing it out until the end of the window just to trim a bit off the fee is something clubs who are serious about winning tend to do. what if getting him in early and bedded in means an extra 3-4 points at the business end of the season? is that worth the 3-4 million levy is going to save? serious clubs don't do business like this and again, putting pressure on the player to say things publicly is not how i would woo a player to join.

With United stalling on Mbeuno and Woolwich reportedly wanting Rodrigo as opposed to Eze, we might change targets .

Richy and Solanke are basically already at their ceiling right now, seeing as Richy is 28 and Solanke will turn 28 a few weeks into next season. Kudus could be one of the best wingers in the league if everything goes right for him.
