That's a fair shout - I mean there weren't that many players who had a bad game, which shows how bad the tactics kind of were for it to be such a bad game for the neutral, yet most of our lads worked their nuts off.
Romero mostly stood out to me for winding the united players up - which of course added a lot to the game, but could easily have gone against us. He played well but I don't particularly feel that the difference between us getting top 4 or winning something again is hinged on keeping or replacing him. I'd feel far more panicked if we lost Micky, but then that's probably based on the cape he had to wear to run back Ledley style to rescue a counter.

Romero was a monolith in that final. Showed he has experience of winning trophies.
The way he wound up and eventually puppeteered Slab head was masterful.
He was riling their entire team up.
He was also immense in the air and just generally rock solid. The leader we needed for that game.
That's not to say he doesn't turn up only when he fancies it. But we shouldn't be selling him.

I can't say the same about your insightful comments as I've never seen one....
In a one off game there's very few (if any) I'd start ahead of Romero.
Over a season he does let you down and other areas of our team are weaker. I think there would be a net upgrade if we put the Romero money towards a proper 6 or another attacker. If VDV stays fit I think we would be fine with Danso/Dragusin/Vuskovic, especially in a more defensive system.
Obviously that depends on Levy spending the money properly which is another thing entirely.
Well yeah thats my main reason about not getting excited about getting big money for Romero. I still think we go and sign a cheap midfiedlder. I don't see us going and spending 80m+ on Baleba or Wharton

If I trusted Levy to buy a replacement of a similar level to Romero then I could be persuaded that we should sell. But this is Levy.
I agree Romero he has an attitude problem and only turns up when he fancies it, and is a disciplinary timebomb.
But having said that I've been assured by loads of people on here that Frank will come in with a magic wand and coach and motivate these players to a newfound level that Ange couldn't dream of.
Because, its not just Romero who rocks up when he wants, look at the table last year and you could level that at most of the squad.

Well, yes - to a very poignant point here.
Retrospectively, I've read posts were the club have got pelters for not selling Dele, Dier, and various others (Toby?) for the £50m united or whoever wanted to pay at the time, so it could help us rebuild.
In this case, we've got a CB who is a 10 out of 10 in 1 out of 10, looks highly unlikely to sign a contract, didn't give much of a faff until a trophy because plausible, and who has implied he will give a bit less of a faff if Ange left, with 2 years left on his deal.
The most sensible thing to do would be to cash in now - not because we don't rate him, but because his hot/cold performances mean he's not a critical part of the squad but could fund a position we really need to get a better option in. He'll be worth half as much next summer, and if he decides he can't be bothered being here this season and phones it in, maybe half as much again.
Last season was injury riddled and he made errors at the start of the season.
What else do people expect when he’d literally just set a new record for miles traveled around the World as a footballer the season before and just played another full summer of international football. Rodri did his ACL and got more sympathy…
The season before Romero was world class the whole season and people just get selective amnesia to fit their narrative.

I think its a coping mechanism. Because they've been convinced that he has had his head turned and is leaving. Doesn't want to be here etc.
I didn't read his tweet that way, I read it that he was happy at Spurs but at some point wants a new challenge, which is probably 99% of footballers these days.
The comparisons with Danso and Dragusin are laughable though, both of those from what I've seen are journeymen squad players. They'll do a squad job but aren't fit to lace up a fit and motivated Romero's boots.
It's telling that you feel it necessary to emphasise the word "motivated".
Money if I had to guess.
I've wanted Romero gone since his sending off in the Champions League under Conte.
He is unprofessional, unreliable, 'error' prone, arrogant and it's time he left.
Recovering what Spurs payed for him should suffice.
For once there would be no complaints from me if Levy takes the money.
Why?
I think its very clear to everyone with half a brain that there are issues with Romero in that department.
But as I said in another post further up, you could level the accusation of motivational issues at most of the squad.
I think most of us believe this squad is better than 17th so clearly a lot of them downed tools in the league last year.
Everyone and their dog on here has been telling me how Frank will motivate and coach these players to new levels.
Surely IF that's the case then we want our best players here? No?
