If we've paid a clause there's nothing they can do. Only thing they can do is to try and prove we've been wrongfully tapping up the player - which could be difficult
My gut feeling is, there are some adults at Forest and there is some sort of dialogue between the clubs. They know they've lost Gibbs-White due to their own stupid clause, so I could see a world where we've just given them some time to get McAtee in to appease the fans

Yeah I'd agree. I think playing for lesser teams they've built their team around him and used him in the 10 but if you actually look at his style, he's more of a box to box midfielder. Can do it all really. He's nowhere near the same level but he plays like Steven Gerrard.
None of us can know what is in his contract but can use the example here of Eze and the fact that palace were demanding the bulk, if not all, of his release clause up front. The devil is in the detail of the contract and if the contract doesn't stipulate how it has to be paid then the selling club can well use that ambiguity to get terms that they want.
There has already been transfers this summer where the buying club has paid more than the release clause as it allows them to including that lot down the road and Zubimendi. They paid higher than his clause so they could spread the payments out. Let's see how this plays out but unless the clause is very specific then just being willing to bid 60m doesn't end the negotiations, there are still steps after that to agree structure.
Here is the thing though, how can you have a secret release clause, surely if your interested in a player you would ask if they had a release clause, they couldn't say "we do but we can't tell you the terms its secret"

That is what the Forest itk is stating and he knows more than me. I just find it strange that we triggered his release clause and had a medical booked if we didn't know the payment terms required. I'm guessing we did and what we offered is fine in whatever installments we put down. The issue is this actually helps Forest's case so I'm not sure which one I want to be true!

Jokes aside, if there's any chance at all that we miss out and someone else buys him, Levy will probably demand 50% of anything above the mythical release clause.

You’re right, but in those situations there was never a release clause triggered, it was purely negotiation if I’m not mistaken? If we had a 80m release clause for Kane I’d more pissed off the club agreed to it
