You're saying the same thing with different words. In any case, my response was to the statement that a club would not accept less than a release clause, which is not true.

Ah fuck it...
I think that's what's confusing me then as I didn't say that, or if I have then I've worded something so badly that it sounds as though I said that...

Or I'm just confused because you were agreeing with me, in which case, this is the internet friend, we don't do that here...

Yes
Following this thread had given me the impression that players have about 48 hours to force the issue, or it's all over.

Is everyone in this thread full of shit?

No idea what you are inferring, but talk of 48 hours is daft.

Once a bid comes in for a player, and it's rejected (without a clause attached), it's mostly Business as usual, until the club are torn with rejection or acceptance.

A player can however always seek to force an issue, but contracts have a lawful bind, although the closer to their cessation, a club risks losing big money. A transfer request moses you loyyalty bonuses I believe, and also makes you liable to being alienated by the club's fans.

Liverpool took that gamble, amazingly with their 3 best players. Quite incredible.

On Gibbs-White, and if the reports are right. I suspect part of his fear could be that if he goes on tour with Fiorest, we might just withdraw the bid, and then he is left in no man's land.

In other words, I think there is a timespan on such matters but length of contract, size of bid. Intention of player come into it.

Gibbs-White wants the move, which says to us, don't walk away, but now he seemingly has to do his bit.

My reading of the situation.

Very reasonable post and can't disagree with any of that. But can we get back to the start as I just can't move past it.

How are Forest not letting him go if they are obliged to accept the release clause? surely they have to prove its illegal or else let him go and the longer this goes on the more they leave themselves open to doing something illegal like breaking his contract! This is the bit I just can't get my head around!

This really pisses me off about modern players.

"Oooh, I've made it absolutely clear I want to leave, but I wouldn't want to put in a transfer request and disrespect the fans..."

Well, it's already clear you want to leave so the fans that are going to be alienated are already alienated, and actually, your formal request will save the club having to shell out your "loyalty" bonus, so as a matter of fact, as a fan, I'd actually prefer it!

I think it's just because they know any repercussions will take a good while, an possibly beyond the closing of the window.

Ultimately they can't legally stop it, but if they delay for long enough and it goes past 31st August they may hope that we just let it go, and potentially get him to sign a new deal after some time to get his head straight.

Maybe, but we aren't talking peanuts, and equally the player's stance might be I am happy but this great opportunity came or I would have e stayed.

A transfer request feels more personal and in oursuit of something elsewhere if that makes sense.
