This is the crux, seemingly only we knew about it though.

I have heard that the clause was precise and we offered the exact amount, this is why Forest are upset I guess.
I don't buy that. For all we know the agent made that RC an open secret but nobody else wanted to pay 60m for him. They have been offering him around for the last week and can't find any takers by the looks of it.

Is he really that much better as DM than Bentancur or Biss?

IMO no
He would be at snuffing our danger and breaking up play. On the ball no, definitely not. Bentancur and biss are actually pretty good at playing through the lines and building up. Bentancur's issue is the CDM role is comletely new to him and he was learning on the job last year. Bissouma's issue is he has zero awareness and often lacks concentration so is the last man you want to be relying on to snuff out danger.

I agree that Palinha isn't much of an upgrade but he's the type of profile we are missing. A proper CDM who actually enjoys the defensive side to the game. I'm lukewarm on the signing though. The fact he is so limited on the ball makes me wonder if the trade off is worth it.

You really believe no-one is taking a chance on MGW for £60m if they knew about it?
Liverpool preferred Wirtz.
Woolwich prefer Eze who can also cover LW which is their current weakness in attack.
He doesn't start for Chelsea.
City might have but they got Reijnders and Cherki for a lot less so might see that as much shrewder business.

So I'm not sure if anyone else pays it. Maybe Newcastle but they went after Elanga instead. You seem to think 60m is some insane bargain. I think its a pretty fair Market Value and don't see it as this amazing opportunity.

I'd be lying if I said I could remember Deschamps as a player....... Sounds an awful lot like EC casting himself as 'The Artist' (as usual).

Taking the phase literally though..... Carrying the water (ball) would constitute transporting it from A to B (up the field somewhat) would it not?
No, he was not referring literally to him carrying the ball. Eric as often was using a rhetorical flourish. Similar to the great Chris Waddle telling Carlton Palmer his job was to move the piano Waddle's to play it. Deschamp won the ball covered runners and gave it to the talent. He literally fetched the water. Abd Dembele repeatedly tops pros lists of the best natural footballer they ever encountered.

If palinha comes in, yes , its not the upgrade many were hoping for.
But, too much emphasis has been placed on Levy's win the league or CL comment, ENIC are never going to add extra investment its not their MO.
Our progress will always be slow compared to some of the others, the club just needs to just be in a better position than we ended last season in.

You know you've mentioned a load of players who don't play in the same position as Gibbs-White don't you?

You need to follow the timeline, City have been after him since last year, they earmarked him to play in their midfield...They have been speaking with Forest and Forest quoted them a high fee, they baulked at the fee and went for Reijnders instead.

Why do you think they move away from a player they've been courting for a while if they new that they could get him for £60m, doesn't make sense.

City do that for a lot of players. I don't think MGW is this special player they've always had their eye on. They had him down as a candidate before they signed two other players. One who is an out and out midfielder and the other who is an attacking player who can play in the 10. I'm not sure if City are as pushed on him after signing both those players.

Maybe they are. I just think signing those two players might cool their interest. They have much bigger problems in their squad. And like I previously said, I don't think 60m for MGW is this insane bargain that they can't refuse. They probably had his MV at 70m max!
