However, it certainly feels like we are in the uncomfortable position where Sonny would like to remain a nailed-on starter and captain here but that Frank does not see him that way.
Feel like that's really just speculation? Son would probably remain captain no matter what, and I've gone on and on about how its really a pointless ceremonial thing anyway. I would expect him to play less this season, though.

Other people obviously would know more than me, I don't have time this summer to do anything but rewatch the EL final and enjoy our first major trophy.

I generally don't follow preseason, anyway. The season is long enough.

Man, I'm so torn on this transfer

+ Unbelievable destroyer
+ Great at tackling
+ Covers a lot of ground
+ Experienced

- Not press resistant at all
- Doesn't pass the ball quick or decisive enough
+ Not the best ball carrier
+ 30 so not really going to improve

I'd never heard of him until this window. But 30 is old. I wouldn't say Casemiro was outstanding (if above average). Also, I don't want to watch another back-passer or plodder who interrupts counters ever again. No offence to Hojberg, but quick turnovers resulting in shots are way, way more fun.

EDIT: He has PL experience, which I didn't know.

He also led the league in bookings in both of his PL seasons.
Didn't even know that.

I definitely remember watching him and thinking how the fuck did he escape a booking there. The fact that he still led the league in bookings is alarming but also the fact that he got so many yellows and still performed how he did is reassuring.

He's the exact type of player we need though if we are speaking about his attributes and nothing else.

Hopefully a loan deal can be done.

A lot more if they sell to another PL club. Unless he has a release clause, I'd imagine they would want a PL record fee so ~130m is my guess and he would want 250-300k plus a week so that's all but 4 clubs out of the running. Bin dippers have already done 200+. When Nomads get Gyökeres that takes them over 200. City have Haaland and whilst I am sure they could play together I don't a move there happening. That leaves the Chavs, who you can never count out as they have already proved you can spend 500m in 12 months and not even get mentioned as being in breach of PSR. Us, no chance. Gut feel is a big move to PSG.
Yes, Liverpool have bought their striker now, unless he goes to Chelsea on a 10 year contract.

He's exactly what we need.

The DM regression is a real thing though and also at Fulham I absolutely remember he would put in a lot of yellow card worthy 'challenges' and mysteriously escape a booking a lot. Had he received the deserved yellows he may have been reluctant to put himself about thus taking away his main strength.
Seeing a lot about this regression idea. And it’s true. But usually around mid thirties. And Palhinha has basically had a year on holiday too, so a while before I see him regressing. As for the bookings thing, it was a great strength of his and if he can teach this stealth skill to the likes of Gray (how to boot someone in the air and get away with it) here on loan for a season, I’m all in.

Are you thick?

When we played against Fulham in the Premier League where he played regularly and so well that Bayern wanted to sign him, he was usually the best midfielder on the fucking pitch.

If you don't have a fucking clue, maybe don't post?

So Our alternative to MGW is a player of acompletely different profile. I love how consistent we are?
Eh, not a COMPLETELY different profile.

What Elliott and MGW (and Kudus, in a somewhat different way) have in common is that they add creativity to the team.

Thinking in terms of player attributes rather than positions, that's an area in which the squad is very short and overly reliant on one guy.

Maybe so.

If he wants to stay and we have a role that helps the team and satisfies him, fantastic. I'm always willing to bet on Son.

However, it certainly feels like we are in the uncomfortable position where Sonny would like to remain a nailed-on starter and captain here but that Frank does not see him that way.

Football and time are cruel. We'll see.
This is why TF is paid the big bucks! To make decisions on what's best for the team, not a single players feelings and Sonny himself will know he isn't the player he was 3 seasons ago, but in the same token he will also know he will always be a legend of The Lane.
