Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I know this isn't the case, but it feels like Forest have reported us and The Premier League have told us we can't make any transfers until the MGW case is sorted. The lack of activity since the story first broke two weeks ago is really worrying. Once again we are being left further behind by those teams we are supposed to be trying to catch.

The squad definitely isn't as bad as some seem to make out on here. Are we saying that Ange massively over achieved to finish 5th with a weaker squad than this.

Truth is somewhere in the middle.

This squad is better than it finished last year and as it is now, is perfectly good enough to compete for 5th with Newcastle and Villa.

My issue is with people saying that is good enough. It isn't.

If we don't act differently this summer, we are only getting further behind the other big 6 clubs because they have taken it up a notch this summer.

Frank finished a few points off 8th with a fraction of the budget and talent.

It makes me angry really that Ange has seemingly created this downtrodden self-deprecating version of the fanbase.

8th used to be the worst we'd expect to finish with a squad full of holes
Yes, but we had peak Kane and Son to bale us out most of the time. This squad does not have two of the greatest PL attackers in their prime.

They haven't reported us.

The lack of activity has nothing to do with MGW. Much more likely that Levy doesn't want to sign off any other incomings until players leave the club and none of our squad are leaving any time soon.

It's more likely that Levy reported us while putting on a Greek accent

You think that Liverpool winning the PL and playing in the CL knckouts last season is going to narrow considerably compared to our 17th place and Europa League money?

:frankthink:

This season gone, they had got £175m in PL prize money alone, plus over £80m from the CL, which is £110m more than us with £125m ish PL money plus £20m or so from the Europa
With the new Club World cup as well now I think we are going to see the Top 5 Clubs moving away from the rest of the league, this season really could be make or break on if we want to try and compete, personally I think all this spending is becoming a joke and it wont be long before we see a breakaway "super League"

I can't speak for other fans but poor squad building over the years has been the cause of low expectations for next season moreso than Ange. I think finishing 8th would be terrible but it's where we are as a squad now. We haven't been consistently top 4 for 7 seasons, it's a completely different side now. Our last 6 seasons were 6th, 7th, 4th, 8th, 5th (with no European football), and 17th. A massively inconsistent squad over those years and poor recruitment and squad building played a really big role in that.

I cannot see a World where Frank takes over this squad with only 1 or maybe no more additions and successfully navigates us top 4 and through a Champions League season. We have 0 star quality in attack or midfield and horrendous depth.

🎶 just a small town girl
Livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train going anywhere
Just a city boy
Born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train going anywhere
A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on
Strangers waitin'
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searchin' in the night
Streetlights, people
Livin' just to find emotion
Hidin' somewhere in the night
Workin' hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice
Just one more time
Some'll win, some will lose
Some are born to sing the blues
Whoa, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on
Strangers waitin'
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searchin' in the night
Streetlights, people
Livin' just to find emotion
Hidin', somewhere in the night
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'
Streetlights, people
Don't stop believin'
Hold on
Streetlights, people
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'
Streetlights, people
And then Shady saw his face ,
now he's a belevyer ,
not a trace of doubt in his mind ,
he's in love , he's a belevyer ,
he could't levy him if he tried

In terms of squad building; I sense this is a reference to VERY few on here.... If any.

irony.

explain to me how your brains work here. "something else" and "trolling" for pointing out that liverpool have held back on big spends to have budget for this summer.

What did they spend last summer versus us?

:frankthink:
They Won the league last season, something as a club we can only dream of happening , yet they are going out and backing the manager as they don't want it to be a singular event, they want to win it again this season and the CL as well, us on the other hand finished 17th , yet we managed to secure CL football and we are dithering around as usual.

Still I guess its a moot point as we can't consider Clubs like Liverpool our rivals anymore, I guess we should just be happy that Newcastle might be losing Isak and Villa haven't bought anyone yet so if we have a good season we can give that 5th place spot a real go! :davieshmm:

That's really wishful thinking my guy. Sure if our ambition is to finish higher than 17th it's definitely got that in it, but we ain't finishing higher than 8th next season unless this window drastically changes course.

So forget the top 4 they are long gone.

If the argument is that we haven't done enough this then let's apply the same logic to our rivals who may finish above us.

As of now as in this present time folk think we're gonna finish behind Villa who haven't done a jot this Summer, Newcastle who are on the verge of losing the best striker in the league in Isak, Brighton who have lost their (joint) top scorer from last season, Bournemouth, who've lost half of their defence and may lose their other CB? Forest who've lost Elanga and I won't touch upon the Gibbs-White thing, who else?, Palace maybe but are increasingly looking like they will lose Guehi this Summer. Utd have strengthened really well in the forward areas who still have a horrible midfield, striker and goalkeeper and their squad is still lacking.

We on the other hand haven't lost anyone, in fact we've gained a good player in Kudus and changed management which by all accounts was the catalyst as to why we finished so low last season.

I'd actually give you the Newcastle shout is actually plausible because they're actually a good team with a good manager but they have to compete in all comps just like us but then again so do Forest, so do Palace, so do Villa. Utd actually could be in for a decent season but let's see what they do in the market.

So 8th to me would be disappointing and we're much better than than in comparison to our rivals, we should be pushing 5th with this squad.

Let’s not sugarcoat it — we finished 17th last season. Seventeenth. One spot above the drop zone. And yet somehow, we ended up lifting the Europa League trophy. If that doesn’t scream “Spurs,” I don’t know what does.

Levy’s still out here saying he wants to win the Premier League and Champions League. Mate, we nearly got relegated. If there’s a plan, it’s probably locked in a drawer next to the stadium naming rights.

We spent £165 million last season and still managed to look like a team cobbled together in a panic. Our wage bill? Lowest in the Big Six. Our league form? Relegation scrap. Our manager? Gone after bringing Europa League Glory. But hey, we’ve got a shiny stadium and a European trophy, so it’s all good, right?

The squad’s still bloated with “pretty good” players. Son’s still got flashes of brilliance, Brennan Johnson scored the winner in a European final, and the rest? Well, they’re trying their best. Sometimes.

So yeah, we’re technically a Big Six club — if you’re only looking at revenue. On the pitch? We’re a soap opera with a trophy cabinet.
