They count, it's just when half your goals are against the bottom 4, 3 of which were so obviously championship standard they were basically down within a few months, its pretty questionable.

If you want me to pretend I think Brennan Johnson is great because the ball maybe bobbled off him in a cup final then sure. I don't. I judge him by watching him play and don't rate him. He's good positionally and a decent sub, that's it. It's an opinion many on here share. I don't need you to tell me he scored 25 against Coventry and Qarabag because it means nothing to me, I watched it happen.
I’m just trying to understand the logic.

Goals do count against teams that in your words “would struggle in the championship” if they’re scored in the PL.

But goals don’t count in the Europa League.

Sounds like the difficulty of the team we’re playing isn’t what’s valuable. You’ve just placed an arbitrary restriction on what you will accept to protect your narrative.

Are you taking his side of the bet?

Odobert and Tel to get ten or fewer goal contributions between them in the league next season?
Nah

I don't see them scoring more than 10 between them but they'll pick up the odd assist that will take the combined number of contributions beyond 10

I do think Odobert could be good in time , definitely something there

I don't see anything in Tel whatsoever

My narrative? I don't rate a footballer mate. I'm probably in the majority on here, Brennan has his weird little fan club that can literally only argue g/a because watching him is painful, but most people think he's probably an impact substitute and nothing more.

All goals "count". But I'm not counting goals against Qarabag and Bodo equally to goals against premier league opposition. Ipswich and Southampton are shite (he scored 4 against these two) but they are at least top flight. I just found it amusing that half his goals were against them and Wolves.

Most normal people when they do these comparisons do it off the league because its a fair bar. I'm not gonna count Nkunkus conference league goals when I judge him.

Matt Wells coaching that drill so exactly the same defensive “coaching” as last year… and I promise 5 defenders drilling shape work against 0 attackers wasn’t the difference between last season and what we saw vs Woolwich.

Frank’s biggest difference will be in his management of schemes and personnel more than coaching
Well he certainly was NOT drilling them with that last season, its not even a debate .... Only diff is Frank & his teams arrival.

I get your point of view based on what we’ve seen.

However:

What You See Is All There Is

The mistake is to assume that what you see is all there is. However there’s a lot we don’t see or know. Maybe Tel’s attitude is perfect, he puts in extra work on the training ground, and some days hes unplayable in training.

Fact is that if you look at the best forwards right now, not many of them impressed you at 19.

Isak had failed to make an impression at Dortmund and was out on loan at Wilhelm II.

Salah was still in Egypt.

Kane got no goals in his 3 appearances out on loan at Norwich.

So nobody is going to make definitive judgements about Tel just yet.

I sure hope people are going to give frank a fair chance this season and not expect too much. We are not going to be playing champagne football so don't expect it.
We're likely going to have to grind out every victory.
He needs the chance to develop the players that perhaps aren't quite ready. Its shouldn't be this way but thats what its is.

What i like from today's match is that he tried to cook something valuable based on limited ingredients.

He had:
-No creative player in midifeld
-rather non-physical front 3
-two very physical workhorses as 8 but with limited ball progression skills
-keeper that can produce accurrate long ball

Hence we often saw Kinsky playing long ball and targeting mostly Sarr (but sometimes also Gray) - two 8s that were rather not involved in build-up from the back and instead stayed higher on the pitch and carried the ball when possible after winning header. So no fuckups when playing from the back, and no losing balls immediately due to lack of ball retention skills by our front three.

Given all those limitations that starting squad had - we sort of survived it against strong oponent and could even win that.

I really hope we will not have to put such squad again too often, but it was good to see Frank had ideas how to maximize its potential.
