Yeah, punts aren’t always bad. There have been successful punts. But my belief that we went in to this transfer window with Palhinha as one of our key targets really desperate to bring him in is incredibly low.

It reeks of opportunism at the sniff of a low risk deal for a guy we can nibble away at while the big dogs fight over a juicy steak.

Strasbourg is very important to the strategy.

The constant invocation of them as being Saudi-backed and favored due to a tiny passive stake in the heavily diversified hedge fund that majority owns Chelsea is complete and total nonsense that leads to just a titanically ignorant understanding of every entity and issue involved.

It's so, so stupid, and a gateway drug to just talking complete up-is-down, black-is-white shit about all matters of the football business.

Not sure about that.

He probably will be better but it’s far from certain at 30, after a serious injury. Bayerns other DMs like Goretzka are anything but suited to Kompany so if he didn’t play over Goretzka, it’s not a great sign.

There’s no chance Palinha was the top option. He’s the one further down the list Levy looked at and thought “yup, I’ll get them that one after not really making a serious play for the top 2-3 and then tell them that I’ve given them what they asked for”.

I think there's generally a couple of misconceptions on simons anf knockbacks which I hear from people about simons.

Firstly I hear many say he wouldn't hack it physically in the pl. Well simons is actually a very industrious and physical player for a no10. His tackling, work ethic, interceptions are very good for a 'creative' player. He showed that when he out battled rice for his goal v England. Hes a plucky fu***r.

Secondly as an attacking player hes pretty well rounded and does not rely on any single trait to survive and thrive. Hes a really well blended player in that he is very althletic, can pass well short and long, gets into the box well to finish attacks, reasonable pace, good skill and vision.

Aside from that he has a trait that I feel is missing somewhat from our team. Hes a player that has abit of an aura about him and a presence. He knows hes good and backs himself 100% it can come across as cocky but i don't see it that way as he works hard. He is that sort of player that you need in big games because he will stand tall.

I have not relied on any stats for this. If you feel any of it is wide of the mark then im happy to be proven wrong with the numbers/stats.

Saying that, if he goes to chelsea he will absolutely not thrive. In fact the reason why I mention his name so much is because he is NOT a mercenary. He wants to play to show his quality. If be suprised if chelsea can offer him that as they have so many players.

A move that's not a punt, lets posit, is when you buy a player permanently from a club that would otherwise be happy to keep them, and the performance you're hoping to secure is what the player was already doing for that team.

Buying him from Fulham 12 months ago would not have been a punt, but buying him from Bayern now is a punt. But precisely for that reason, it's a good punt.

Disagree, Saudi is crucial to the model.

They’ve made 5 and counting (likely 7 by window end) big money sales to Saudi. PIF and Clearlake have a very, very friendly business relationship and they understand Saudi is a key PSR source.

Liverpool are doing very similar things with the Nunez transfer and will do the same with Salah in the next couple years.

I’ve had Saudi clubs described to me as a “get out of jail free card” Chelsea know they can count on. This is just observable fact, not conspiracy.

I get what you're saying but Kudus has already shown he'll be a good addition and Paqueta is better than what we've got. I wouldn't mind Bowen either. Don't know why they struggle to score but it seems to be a problem for Potter's teams going back to Brighton and Chelsea.
