It has taken 24hrs or more for me to come to terms...

I have, it is, he was & we shall march on.

Sonny was - we just witnessed his greatness...

From 2015 to 2025 La Liga won the UCL 6 times. 6! Two different teams.

From 2015 to 2025 La Liga won the EL 5 times. Two different teams.

If you were to extend back one more season to 2014, you would see an all Madrid UCL final: Real Madrid vs. Atlético de Madrid. If RM hadn’t made that final, we like have a third Spanish team winning the UCL.

The EL was won by Sevilla that 2014 season.

So, from 2015 to 2025 La Liga has won a combined 11 times with four different clubs.

The top two sides in Spain have been superior to the top two sides in all the other leagues. The EL Spanish team (5th in the league) has been the top EL side from 2015 to 2025.

In other words, the top top teams are in La Liga. The best tier 2 teams are also in La Liga. Historically for a while, but specifically for the years you happened to pick.

La Liga is the top league in the world. It’s not even close.
Spanish sides winning European competitions doesn't make La Liga the toughest league, it makes it the same as Scotland (albeit a much higher standard), a league dominated by 2 teams. A tough league has multiple teams capable of winning the league trophy.

At the start of the La Liga season, Barca will know that if they beat Real twice, they have a very realistic chance of winning the league and vice versa. This coming Premier League season, Man City, Liverpool, Woolwich, even Chelsea could win it, Man Utd have spent a lot, so they could even push close.....that's tough, it's ultra competitive, which makes it the toughest league to win.

If you're going to go down the European cup route as a measure, the teams that were in the final of Europes second competition finished 15th and 17th in the Premier league........

Notice how Kane hasn’t said a single thing about Son despite them being each others most iconic teammate.

Very surprised by his behavior since he left Spurs. We all love him of course but I cannot deny that I have lost some respect for him. Way he left was an embarrassment, a snapchat video was all we got.

I was thinking the same. But forgot about it soon as I buried myself in more of the media contents and posts of all other more appreciative players.

This was the main difference between Kane and Son. Kane can be the all-time top scorer for us in records. But most people will definitely remember Son so much more affectionately over Kane because of the human quality. And honestly, now that Son is leaving and people are looking back, especially on the episode of him staying and signing the contract, no throwing of tantrums of not returning for preseason, everything just looked so much worse for Kane.

Kane didn't even like our posts no more ffs. People can justify that he's a Bayern player and he may not wanna cause any misunderstandings. But fuck sake, Lucas Moura and Lamela have been so interactive with our social media posts in IG. Even Aurier had a story paying tribute to Son.

My respect levels for both players are night and day. I have ignored Kane's thread the minute he left.

Yeah, I guess that's the thing with statistics, there's multiple ways to interpret them.
A look at the Opta Power ratings though, which really is the most accurate benchmark we have (unless there is another consistent form of analysis), is very interesting.

English Premier league 92.78%
La Liga 86.64%
Serie A 86.52%
Ligue 1 85.97%
Bundesliga 85.79%

According to the ratings, the premier league has overwhelmingly the strongest collection of teams in one single league, making it the most competitive league out of the strongest leagues in Europe.
Coupled with the hectic schedule, lack of mid-season break, it being arguably the most physically combative league, and the competitive balance. It's no surprise that it is widely considered to be the toughest league in the world.

Fcuk him and he hasn't got what Son achieved at this club.

And never will have. Instead he has some tinpot winners' medal in a one-team league.

From that time he stepped up in the CL K'O Games against City , I just knew then that Sonny was going to leave Spurs a legend! The fact he left after winning a European cup as well was the icing on the cake, also not afraid to admit i doubted him when he first joined, never thought he was going to make it in the PL, but I was soon proved wrong!

Can I respectfully ask that you take your discussion re what league is hardest elsewhere. I just want to read about Sonny in this thread. Thanks

Rough translation from the Maltese:

"If you pollute this thread further with your "best league" argument, I have a very sharp knife and a pickle jar that I shall collect your family jewels in for display!"
