Another bit of info on Rodrygo. In a 2023 interview, Ancelotti said he thought his best position was as a mediapunta, essentially a number 10.

I think at that time though we were fortunate to have Keane, Defoe, and Mido picking up his slack and for where we were as a club at the time that was a very good 3/4 of a strike force.

The team was better in the few years before the new stadium was opened.
Sure more has been spent but the same can be said for most other PL teams, so the new stadium has maintained the status quo. The club has spent more but because of increased player value, they're actually worse players than what was there in the few years prior to the new stadium opening.
The last time I checked the club had a hefty transfer budget debt.

We make more money from this stadium than we did from White Hart Lane. It's just expectations isn't it, has it allowed us to spend more money than 16 other clubs and more wages than 13 other clubs, yeah. Has it given a sudden influx of money in the way Newcastle, Villa and Chelsea have had with new ownership, no.
Pointless going into squads but a 5 million punt on a championship player and the best striker in world football coming through our youth system along with having a pretty underwhelming initial managerial appointment absolutely work helped.
