"Bottom line here is unless one is a vehemently opposed to every facet of our ownership; you'll continue to frame them as brainwashed followers (or some other crap).... Blind to the fact you are every bit as extreme on the 'scale' of opinion as those whom you're set up in opposition to."

Good Lord. You really are a piece of work aren't you?

Where in that do I call you "stupid" or "brainwashed"?

I'll stick with "disingenuous"..... I stand by that.

Still despite the name calling, are you going to answer exactly why you think this ownership are good for the club, and why? And how do you think we've improved over the last 15 or so years.

I bet you hop around that too.

Quote some pro-ENIC comments of mine to defend and we'll go from there.

I'm not here to dignify your projection.

Are you saying the £300m investment and ‘imminent’ naming rights deal from Saudi wasn’t true?! 😮😮😮

in the last15 years since 2010 we've had regular CL football, we finished 4th reguarly, 3rd and even 2nd.

we also made the CL final and won the Europa league.

do you not think we've improved over the last 15 years? genuinely

the ownership have made mistakes, no question, but there's been good signings too and good performances particularly over the last 15 years

I just copy and paste you calling me brainwashed by association, it still means the same thing. I could say someone is X, and they think like you, and I'm still insulting by extension. You're not slick.

I couldn't be bothered digging, but you're very clearly, staunchly a big fan of his because you get upset when he's questioned. I'm trying to understand why that is? Are you too embarrassed to say or what's the deal? Bottom line is we've regressed over the last decade and a half. One flukey trophy doesn't fix that. Wigan had a harder run winning the FA cup the year they did, and got relegated.

I'd just truthfully like to understand why the need to defend someone that is clearly using the club as a vehicle for his own personal gain?

There's no need to insult each other.

We're in the CL by way of finishing 17th and happens to get a trophy. 15 years ago we were top 6, like pretty much a sure thing to finish there. It was usually us or Woolwich missing out on CL. Now, there's 5/6 clubs around us who've been relegated in that time period, and have finished ahead of us for consecutive years.

We're fighting the likes of Brighton, Bournemouth, Villa, Everton for players. Most of them weren't in the league 15 years ago.

We could've very easily kicked on, but we've tread water since then, now we're worse off with who we have to compete with.

So yes, I do think think we've actually gone backwards, because we're now looking around us, rather than up.

Do I think we're better placed competitively in the Premier League today versus the summer entering 2010-11?

Absolutely not. That was a better side for sure.

We hit an even higher peak in the middle but we are today behind where we were 15 years ago on the pitch.
that's an interesting and fair question, I'd say no, right, now we're certainly further away than we were then, but I don't think we're that far from competing but you're right it's 3/4 top level players OR we get really lucky and this young generation of Vuscovic, Gray, Bergvall, Odobert, Tel etc hit the levels Eriksen, kane, Son ,Dele etc hit.

Jury's out, without question.

To have the longest serving chairman and ownership group ever in the Premier League and to be going backwards competitively despite a revenue-spinning facility that is the envy of the football world really speaks volumes.

The jury's verdict is in crystal clear black and white for all to see.

ENIC won't use the monster they've built. They should declare victory, take their billions, and put us in the hands of someone who has the cash and the ambition to maximize the potential ENIC has created.

You can't be reading it properly.

This is just descending into utter cobblers.

There's valid criticism
....And then there's horseshit.

A lot of both gets spewed on the subject.

Now go back to my first post to you and spare me the projection.... It's tedious and I'm not gonna dignify it.

True, but TBF and I'm as anti Ange as the next guy - but one year ago we'd just finished 5th. I do think the squad we have is better than some (most?) on here, I think we have some really good players, yes light in MF and up top but still some good players.

I think we've defo taken steps backwards in the last 12 months.

again, i don't think we're too far away at all.

I expect we'll bring at least 2 more in, maybe 3. interesting to see who they are. I hope they are at least at the level of Romero/VDV/Udogie/Maddison/Kulu/Bentancur etc

Newcastle having a terrible transfer window. Especially if Isak also leaves.

Both Newcastle and us have CL football and yet players still choosing to play for Man Utd. Their legacy of winning trophies 20 years ago still counts for a lot, the current crop of players likely saw them winning and supported them. They still have a huge fan base that will keep coming and they pay top wages to their players and happy to furlough their tealady to do it.
Consistently winning trophies attracts people to your club eventually, almost future proofing it. You then have a fan base to build a bigger organisation where you can pay top wages to attract the best talent.

Having said all that and this may be contradictory but I don't think people should overlook what Man Utd are doing in terms of spending this money on players and letting ordinary local staff go to save a bit of cash elsewhere. We all know there's no ethics in football but it's getting worse by the day.

On a side note where are United getting all this money from? They haven't sold anyone of interest for big money recently as far as I know.

Interesting stat I just found

in the last decade only 4 players debuting a Premier league season that wasn't playing in either Serie A, La Liga or the Championship the season before, has scored more than 10 league goals.

Haaland
Aubemayang
Perriera(promoted with WBA)
Pukki(promoted with Norwich)

Edit: Watkins aswell

yeah, again fair point, I guess I'm more forgiving because while i accept we're the 9th richest club etc 6 of the top 10 share our league, and as well as the traditional big hitters United/Pool/Arse etc - City Chelsea and Newcastle have obtained nation state wealth that far engulfs ours. but I agree we should take more risks. i guess there's levels of what you're willing to put up with when you grew up watching get hit for 7 in the mid 90s etc.

Anyway fair and good points and nice to debate with you. a refreshing experience from the exhausting tirade of JT etc al who just make my experience on here that little bit shitter.

Probably sold the car park for 200 million to INEOS

With Richy I don’t think it’s that he’s shit, just that he’s proven to be quite injury prone, on wages that other clubs wouldn’t take a risk on. I seem to recall plenty of rumours of Saudi clubs wanting him, he just isn’t a player to go there, which I can honestly respect.
No, I’m sorry, Richarlison is shit.

The injuries perpetuate his shitness, but the reality is a club that has even a semblance of ambition/seriousness would not be putting up with another season of this guy being a major part of the squad.

It's not just the odd year issue though, which is why I've said 15 years, and I'm not saying it to be disingenuous, but in that time, we've had one ownership group, we've raked in revenue that brings us 9th in world football, which is ridiculous.

Yet, our chairman refuses to run a big club like it should be run. For 5/6 years, been telling us about regulation changes that will level the playing field. But in that time, those changes haven't come, we're now in the elite when it comes to money coming in, yet we're dead last in wages to revenue. Which means we have no chance at getting top players that will help us make that jump.

We could very easily be spending mega money every year, but it won't happen. Instead of punting £100m on a transformativ player in a position of need. We buy 3 on lower wages, in the hope they can become said £100m player. But our recruitment has been abysmal, hence the huge amount of deadwood we have, and we plug a leak with some tape, which is a quick sideways fix, until it becomes a huge problem, like now.

Others have caught up and overtaken us, like Villa and Newcastle, who, as I say, were relagated in that time period. We've absolutely gone backwards for no other reason than the owners refuse to spend properly, spending on lots of cheap options who need replaced after a year or two is cheating out, backfiring. With most teams around us improving, and us standing still, we're getting pulled into the wrong end of the table.

That's going backwards.

Gallagher being rumoured? Yes please! After the MGW fiasco then for me Elliot or Gallagher was next up. Yes different from MGW but both have that spiteful winning mentality that I believe we are lacking.

What was it Mourninio said? " You need to be cunts"! Both of these can play, but equally they are both masters of the dark arts when needed. So if Gallagher comes I for one will be happy.
