True, but TBF and I'm as anti Ange as the next guy - but one year ago we'd just finished 5th. I do think the squad we have is better than some (most?) on here, I think we have some really good players, yes light in MF and up top but still some good players.
I think we've defo taken steps backwards in the last 12 months.
again, i don't think we're too far away at all.
I expect we'll bring at least 2 more in, maybe 3. interesting to see who they are. I hope they are at least at the level of Romero/VDV/Udogie/Maddison/Kulu/Bentancur etc
It's not just the odd year issue though, which is why I've said 15 years, and I'm not saying it to be disingenuous, but in that time, we've had one ownership group, we've raked in revenue that brings us 9th in world football, which is ridiculous.
Yet, our chairman refuses to run a big club like it should be run. For 5/6 years, been telling us about regulation changes that will level the playing field. But in that time, those changes haven't come, we're now in the elite when it comes to money coming in, yet we're dead last in wages to revenue. Which means we have no chance at getting top players that will help us make that jump.
We could very easily be spending mega money every year, but it won't happen. Instead of punting £100m on a transformativ player in a position of need. We buy 3 on lower wages, in the hope they can become said £100m player. But our recruitment has been abysmal, hence the huge amount of deadwood we have, and we plug a leak with some tape, which is a quick sideways fix, until it becomes a huge problem, like now.
Others have caught up and overtaken us, like Villa and Newcastle, who, as I say, were relagated in that time period. We've absolutely gone backwards for no other reason than the owners refuse to spend
properly, spending on lots of cheap options who need replaced after a year or two is cheating out, backfiring. With most teams around us improving, and us standing still, we're getting pulled into the wrong end of the table.
That's going backwards.
