Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Realistically, if you believe we are miles and miles off now, where did you think we were going to get this window.

Realistically, wouldn't you have hoped to be in a stronger position than we are as of now.

As things stand, we've jettisoned our most productive attacking player and brought in Kudus and 30yo Palhinha.

Unless we have a stellar next four weeks, we've effectively added about 3 tackles a game and lost about a 50% G/A a game.

This is shaping up to be the worse window ever, a generational bad one.
Someone else said it's worse than when we didn't sign anyone, and it is looking correct.
We had a solid team then just needed to strengthen while strong as the best teams do but we fucked it.
This is utterly new levels, we are so badly short it's shocking we are in such bad shape.

They knew we had one #10, who is injury prone and never did anything. MGW or nothing? Why are we so fucking slow with all this shit, got to be other targets they had. Now we need 2 #10s, nevermind the LB cover we have needed for 2 years already. They knew Son was gonna go, why they have not identified and gone and purchased a replacement. It's monitoring this, assessing that, possibly making an inquiry.

Actually, with Son, Kulu and Madisson out we will need to find 33 goals and 34 assists from elsewhere. So probably closer to 75% of goal threat lost.

Johnson is not a player who creates his own chances, so without supply, his goal tally will be non-existent.

So, the only create player on the pitch will be Porro - who in Franks system will be playing less attacking.

Frank will be gone by the 2nd international break unless he somehow comes up with a system that works.

It's important to understand the context with Paz.

Real Madrid have a buyback clause for 9M next summer and 10M the summer after. He is for all intents and purposes their player, even if they don't want to integrate him into their squad they are 100% certain to activate that clause and sell him themselves to book the profit.

He is essentially a Madrid player on loan at Como, except under a weird structure in which Como would also have to agree to a transfer and get paid for their interest in the player.

Even if it weren't Spurs and Levy, this is a nigh-upon-impossible deal to make.
Why would Paz agree to go to Madrid just to then be flipped to another club? He can say no, and go direct to the other club. That's the point of the transfer.

If Madrid wants him, they would have to keep him. Otherwise it would be structured as a sell on clause, precisely for this reason.

I actually agree with you. It wouldn’t surprise me either way. Maybe we finish above them, maybe they finish above us.

But I am pointing to an inconsistency.
United finished above us last season.
If they have strengthened better than us, then you must be confident that they will finish above us?

My explanation is that by bringing in a great manager, and having an excellent coaching team, and having many young players who will naturally improve, and having better morale … we have actually strengthened far more than United. It’s just less visible. I also think there’ll be mean reversion so we will naturally improve more than them. So I think the gap will be negligible and come down to luck (injuries, playing teams at the right time, general randomness…).
Great manager?

His best finish is 9th in the PL.

I hope he does well, but the jury is definitely still out.

The thing to bear in mind with injuries like Maddisons is that these players are heavily insured by the clubs. An old Uni mate of mine specialises in football insurance in the City. Obviously it doesn't cover all of the cost but it isn't like we're shelling out wages and unable to pay for replacements - some of the costs of the injury will be covered by long term injury insurance.

Depends what we buy.

Some clubs will buy a policy which pays a relatively small amount of compensation if any of their players are injured beyond a certain period (typically 6 months) others will only buy this for certain key players but perhaps it’s a more meaningful limit.

For example for the same cost you could insure any of the squad for around £2m or insure your 5 key players for £10m (a very rough example).

The variables are: threshold before the insurance kicks in e.g. 3 months a lot more expensive than 6 months; amount of players covered e.g. the more players the more expense so we might have elected not to insure certain players who aren’t key; and payout - a higher limit pays more.

Got no idea what we would buy though

Nah, the Ndombele, Lo Celso and Sessegnon window was worse.

Notice how we were the sole club in for Solanke whereas Mbuemo had a multitude of suitors. Notice how he scored more from the wing than Solanke from CF as well as getting a whole bunch of assists. Notice how he had numerous productive prem seasons under his belt vs one.

Some of you just don’t get it. It’s not the transfer fee spent. Richarlison was expensive. Nobody else wanted him.

Mbeumo is a better player than Solanke. He just is. I don’t mind Solanke, he’s a good premier league CF. Mbuemo is a TOP PL winger.
Mbeumo is better. Brentford's attack ran through him and he had skills as a scorer and passer. Too bad he wanted to go Man United.

Is your highest ever PL finish the only indicator of how good a manager you are?

Our best manager in a generation came with a best finish of 8th prior to us. Come on …
Come on man!

Frank has done nothing in his entire career that gives any claim to greatness. Finishing mid table on low budget is his claim to fame.

Hopefully you end up being correct and he achieves the "great" accolade over the next few seasons here.
