Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Actually, with Son, Kulu and Madisson out we will need to find 33 goals and 34 assists from elsewhere. So probably closer to 75% of goal threat lost.

Johnson is not a player who creates his own chances, so without supply, his goal tally will be non-existent.

So, the only create player on the pitch will be Porro - who in Franks system will be playing less attacking.

Frank will be gone by the 2nd international break unless he somehow comes up with a system that works.
Yes but with the return of Bryan Gil and Manor Solomon we have surely bridged that gap - I mean they are like new signings

Realistically, wouldn't you have hoped to be in a stronger position than we are as of now.

As things stand, we've jettisoned our most productive attacking player and brought in Kudus and 30yo Palhinha.

Unless we have a stellar next four weeks, we've effectively added about 3 tackles a game and lost about a 50% G/A a game.

That wasn't the question, mate.

I have already stated that we still have business we need to do.

But we were never going from 'miles and miles' to having caught up in a window, especially considering the player profile we have been purchasing the last few seasons.

Best within reason; but yes:

Romero - Italian defender of the year.
Porro
Maddison - 2nd most productive CAM in the EPL over a number of years

Yea same one came to my mind too.

But I would actually change Maddison to van de Ven.
Madders was actually available on better price due to Leicester relegation.
Mickey was quite expensive signing from Bundesliga that was not known but who fit the bill (to get fast player with good ball-playing ability to be able to play high defensive line) almost perfectly.

But I also agree with initial point- those are the outliers. Majority of deals are motivated by opportunism.
I think Liverpool purchases of VVD and Allisson are perfect example of team identifying their area of need. Picking best option. Paying large sum and yet still make these deals look like bargain on hindsight.

Levy hoping Frank can repeat the Pochettino job and unearth gems but honestly if this is it in the transfer window he is probably fucked. 8-16th mark with no AM is probably about right but a club our size will consider it unacceptable even if it’s not his fault and the blame will end up with Frank then we can look at the next manager.

I like Frank, I would like to see us back him instead of leaving his arse in the wind.
Levy doesn't deserve to get lucky twice. Worst thing that could happen, though us fans obviously deserve success and would love for TF to be the new Poch.

Why’s it always got to be about “if the right opportunity arises”? Why do we not do what every other big club does and identify the best player available for the position, and go spend the money to get them?

I fairness the quote was if they could get a player good enough more than one we can afford.

So, at least Frank hasn’t lost his enthusiasm and is telling them that Son can’t be replaced by 2 youngsters.

Will the club deliver?

You can play the reasonable card and say we could never catch up in one window but the truth is we’ve had a window that essentially proves there is a big 5 now and we are firmly in the next group financially

We still had to beat off Newcastle (who were free-spending at the time) to get him.

Yeh, I didn't mention Mickey due to his low profile.

Fair; one would have to dip back a few years to Ndomebele for the next example.

Nah, the Ndombele, Lo Celso and Sessegnon window was worse.

A bad one, but perception at the time was positive. We weren't signing 2 sick notes and a fat lazy cunt, he was a bit of a beast he had it all but the brain.

We don't yet know the full impact of this window, but I feel it's going to take some beating after the dust settles.. unless we sign some real quality. To be this unprepared is shocking.

PL: 8th at best, more likely 10th or 12th...possibly another 12-15 defeats incl some embarrassing ones vs LFC and our London 'rivals'

CL: might squeeze into the Playoff spots if the wind's kind to us...will suffer some heavy defeats soon as we meet anyone decent

FA Cup: if Lady Luck's on our side, I'd say we make it to the quarters, where we'll get thumped by a Chelsea or similar

Shite Cup: we'll make the semis or even the final and Levy will use it as further evidence his strategy is working
Agree with the PL (I think we're likely to be competing for 7th to 12th) and the CL. As for the FA and Carabao Cups, I think we'll struggle against the first PL team we face given we'll be rotating what increasingly looks like being a thin squad.

Also, I'm never quite sure why some of us predict we'll go further in the Carabao Cup than the FA Cup... isn't it essentially the same pool of teams in each competition?

They are very good players, but clubs like Brighton, Bournemouth and Forest have very good players too. They’re on that level, neither of them are top 4 level players if we take off our Spurs tinted specs.
The Forest lad Murillo is as good as Micky...if not better.

I like Sarr, good player, works hard, nice enough kid too...but no way is he a top 4 player at this stage.

Romero is the only top level player in the squad.
Even Romero is overrated. A top level player is available all the time, doesn't miss 20 games each & every season. A top level CB doesn't concede 120+ goals in 2 years. A top level CB knows how to head the ball, doesn't need to make rash challenges...

A big problem is that the core of our squad have been in a doom spiral for 18 months and are used to losing every other game. We lack true leaders, and have few top tier players. Without the rigours of midweek European football we might have competed for top 8. But once the injuries hit, and they will, we’ll be bottom half of the table whilst playing crap football.

Just goes to show how "perception" isn't especially important eh?

We still need to do more of course, but Kudus & JP need to bomb pretty hard to match up to the duds of 2019.

Yep, thats what Ftank will surely understand.

It's going to take time but it's also startling to see how little we have done, on the basis of who we are as a club and that improvements on a squad of players who finished 17th can't be so difficult.
