Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

That’s the crazy thing about optics. If we turned to Grealish, after already landing a #10 like MGW, because of Madders injury I wouldn’t have a problem with it. But as a primary target. Brutal.
Did we have more than 2 primary targets? How has our scouting team watched our team falter over the course of an entire season and been unable to identify anyone who would improve even the squad, never mind the first team, by the 2nd week of August? At least Newcastle fans can placate themselves that they have been in for realistic purchases and keep getting fucked over by the fact more attractive clubs keep gazumping them, we don't even appear to be working on deals.

I just want to say that I do not always bring my best self to this forum. We are all spurs fans here.

If we don’t bring in one or two more FIRST TEAM players then we have not done enough and it will be a bs window.

It’s not true that Levy said we would win the league and CL this season. That’s disingenuous. However he did say we need to compete and at the moment the squad is short of quality to compete on four fronts.

Massive three weeks ahead.
You were doing well; especially with the first highlighted statement.

However; the second highlighted statement needs to be transcribed.

Levy dosen't want Spurs to get relegated from the Premier League is a more accurate assessment.

There is no ambition for the football club from these people.

They need to leave and we need to help persuade them to come to that conclusion sooner rather than later.

24 years of this bullshit is enough for all of us.

The miser is waiting until the serious clubs have finished spending.

He can then low ball the desperate clubs, at the back end of the window, without fear of competition.

Frank must be the hill we die on as Spurs fans in a sense. We have turned every which way to every which type of manager since Poch and not a single appointment has worked, we can all see as fans he has been given a squad that wasn't good enough for the ambitions foisted on him by the chairman before he's even had the chance to conduct a training session and has barely been strengthened in the meantime, meanwhile the teams he's supposed to be catching up to are out having £200m+ net spend windows.
We might get some shit results, we might play some ugly football, so be it. I refuse as a Spurs fan to allow Levy and ENIC off the hook for another manager. He had a golden opportunity to back a new man to the hilt after a clean-ish break with Ange and our first silverware in 17 years to build on, he stoked the fire when he mentioned winning the top competitions, he wants the credit for building a "successful" club, but never has the appetite to apply the finishing touches to achieve it. If Thomas Frank fails at Tottenham Hotspur, based on what we know about his abilities in the PL and how well regarded he is as a coach by his (former) players, it won't be his fault. If I'm going to put any energy into calling for anyone's head from this appointment onwards, it will be Daniel Levy's.

Again though, why is effectively the shot-caller of a multi-billion pound entity not being briefed that even mentioning winning those competitions creates effectively a timeline of expectation? As I have said previously, even if you accept that challenging for those competitions forms part of a 3 or 5 year plan, that still invites unwanted scrutiny on our transfer activity and competition performance under our new manager from the get-go. If Frank finishes 9th and takes us into a semi-final, I would class that as a good starting point to build on, considering we would have improved 8 places and given a decent account of ourselves in a cup competition, but if you contextualise a 9th placed finish and a cup run in year one of a 3-5 year plan to win the league, that is utter failure. I never expected us to spend the probably close to £1bn on player acquisitions that would be required for us to even closely compete for the league, but if you tell me that's where you want to get eventually, I expect you will at least break £200m net as every single one of the teams we would have to surpass to achieve those goals have.
Knowing how it's going to be taken it's probably important he needs to caveat absolutely everything he say's with a timeline, think that will be the case from now on totally agree. Just incredibly bored how the phrase is getting used on here, just ammunition spam for melts.

Agree with Frank, be nice to have a bit of identity again over a period of years rather than months. Not losing my shit until September 1st.

and we are absolutely starving for a title. it's like he rescued us from the desert then said, "such a big moment finding you all lost out there in the desert and i just want to say not only are we rescuing you , we're going to have water and food too," and then he fucks off to korea without leaving any food or water and wonders why people are upset. i actually think he's cracking or something because missteps like that aren't typical for him.

I want to be optimistic for the upcoming season, I don't expect to win the league in 3 or even 5 years, I believe in Frank's credentials and his tactical understanding, I refuse, if he "fails", it will not be on him. It's on our out-of-touch chairman and his unwillingness to commit to fulfilling his own ambitions. I want to be entertained watching Tottenham again. If Frank delivers that, I will back him to the end.

Joking aside, that is where we're at depth wise in the CL. We can only register 21 players + Austin and you name a 23 man squad for matchdays so there will be 1 spot for a List B academy player and we've loaned out all the players closest to being ready for men's football. 16 year-olds like Williams-Barnett, Byfield is where we're at now as a CL option on the bench.
Hot take: Williams-Barnett is better than any of the attacking players we’ve loaned out.
