Yeah I don’t agree.

Newcastle have us in CM based on last season but we are coming for them imo

Based on last season? Man what are you smoking?!

Guimaraes-Joelinton-Tonali is miles ahead. It isn’t close. It’s a fantastic balance of physicality and technique and it makes games a fucking nightmare for teams. Ours isn’t even close in terms of intensity.

We have a better defence on paper but they have a guy who can score 20+ league goals up top.

Based on the last 2 seasons since Kane left

I think its very difficult to gauge right now whilst the transfer window is open. As it stands we just don't have anywhere near enough to win enough games imo to be in and around 5/6th which is where id place newxastle and villa.
No game in the pl is easy and there's going to be alot of grinding out results and trying to grab victories from the jaws of of a draw or even a loss.
I think as it stands Newcastle and villa certainly are more able to grind those wins out with there current setups and squads that are probably much more balanced than ours.

If the transfer window shut tonight id say its going to be a very long and painful season and id have us for around the 8th ar best, 10th at worse.
If we manage to get a couple of really top players eg, savinho and eze then we can catapult us to the fight for 5th as they will just add so much to an already decent yet unspectacular young team.

It was a freak.

The same squad minus Solanke and Spence finished 5th the season before.

That was also a freak. Carried by a fantastic start and one game a week. Our form post that for ages would’ve had us in 8th/9th place.

We aren’t as bad as 17th but that 5th place came with a shit load of context. We clung on to it for dear life. It wasn’t sustainable the following season.

Our true level right now is just below Villa/Newcastle. That’s where the squad quality belongs.

With this squad and manager these are the teams we will definitely finish below:

Bin Dippers
City
Woolwich
Chavs

Teams we will probably finish below:

Newcastle
Villa
Palace
Brighton
Forest
Man U

Team we will be competing with for 11th:

Brentford
Fulham
Bournemouth

Teams we should finish above:

Leeds
Burnley
Sunderland
West Ham
Everton
Wolves

Therefore our ceiling is probably 11th and our floor is 14th. A couple of big signings might change things but right now I dont think we can get 5th.

We should absolutely be finishing ahead of the likes of Brighton and Forest. United are an unknown factor. If they click they have loads of goals in that team now but I caught them a bit in pre season and Amorim ball is still as stale as it ever was so not convinced.

We need to hope that Newcastle & Villa fall off a bit, one of them probably will next season.

Why should we absolutely finish above Forest and Brighton? Both teams did the double over us last season. Both are well organised and you could argue their squads are on a par if not better than ours. I can maybe see European football counting against Forest but Brighton without midweek games will be in and around 6th / 7th in my opinion.

We didn’t cling onto 5th, we fluffed 4th at the death. We were solid favourites to finish 4th, with it in our hands after winning at Villa park.

The two games a week thing is definitely a factor. We were 3 points of second to start last season and then EL started and we looked utter dirge every Sunday post EL.

I think the squad is a year older and hopefully will be a bit deeper after the window. I’m not seeing that Villa or Newcastle have got any deeper or stronger this summer at all.

In answer to the poster above Barcodes may be catchable.
Saw an article saying Isaks head is gone training on his own.
If he doesn't go to Whining Shitcvnt FC it will take time to get over it

Lol we lost every single game at the end of the season and were 3 whole points away from Chelsea who had been gaining on us for ages and their transformation to being a better team than us had long since been complete. Newcastle and United were only 6 points behind.

Villa also fucked it so it was close, they went on a horrendous streak, but we absolutely clung on to fifth. That team was not top five quality for most of the season, it rode it off the back of a honeymoon start.

We definitely blew 4th. Just us and Villa in that race, nobody else.

And Villa went on a horrendous streak but you are saying they are now guaranteed to be better than us. Newcastle and UTD “only” 6 points behind…

Over the last 2 years there’s not much between us and our competition for 5th. I think we’ve done more than all of them except United and it does look like we might do more from here. Key youngsters we invested minutes into last year will be a year more experienced too.

Our issue is the gap to the top 4 has got bigger. Unless we are massively aggressive to close the window

Lol unless we sign a regen of Messi and Ronaldo top 4 isn’t on the table. I don’t know what you think massively aggressive constitutes.

We are miles off it, you are just way too optimistic.

No, I agree we are not catching the top 4 based on what we’ve done vs them this summer. Woolwich maybe the exception in that group, I’m not a huge fan of any signing they made this summer but it’s impossible to deny they’ve invested
