We’d have to sign about six top class starters to catch them, even when we were fifth we were twenty odd points behind them. Zubimendi is obviously quality (walks in to our team). I don’t know enough about Gyokores to comment, don’t watch Portuguese football. Scored a hat-trick against city in the CL and about 100 league goals so can’t be half bad. Doubt they’re done.

The only way we catch Villa or Newcastle is if they have an iffy season.

We'll definitely be less "entertaining" this season compared to the previous two, entertainment being defined as scoring and conceding a lot, but then getting destroyed every single week for months wasn't really fun.

That frontline is really underwhelming at the moment though, that goes without saying.

How many people at the time approved of these signings. I never wanted Richi Johnson tel Solanke and oddebert. The money could have been used so much better. Now everyone is saying how crap they all are.

Didn't mind Odobert as he as inexpensive punt. The rest. No, no, no, no. The only one who's won me around is BJ, but even then, he can definitely be improved on and was a huge overpay.

If you're going to say things like :"fifth would be a remarkable season for Frank given all factors" then you also need to do that for the bloke before him you find personally detestable. I would assess that Postecoglou had an even bigger shit storm to manage in his first season than Frank has, GIVEN ALL FACTORS.

Not me. Richie, injury prone, too expensive and a bit flaky and over emotional for me but who knows what could have been. Injuries have meant we will never know and that can happen with any signing.
. Johnson, scores goals to be fair but just not ballsy enough for me, needs to take the man on more and it’s no surprises as he hasn’t changed from when we bought him. Just thought he would have been coached up to a different level. Nice goal scoring touch which needs maybe to be better utilised?
Tel? I think he will come good but more as a striker, cheap enough punt and not going to say yay or nay after a bit of a season with Ange. Looking forward to seeing how well he does this season.
Ditto Odebert, no way can he be written off after last year. I’m actually looking forward to seeing what happens this season with this guy.
Dom Solanke? Priceless last season in so many ways. He was totally fucked with Ange ball but put in loads of incredible shifts for a striker. No complaints at all, again looking forward to seeing what he does under a different system.
In my eyes it’s a clean slate for everyone, regardless of cost and see what happens under a bit more of a pragmatic coach.

I think the point is that there is context around both managers but it only seems applicable to Frank and even then only if he should he fail. The excuses for Frank are already being lined up.

The fact is the squad is improved over last season, but is nowhere good enought for a top 5 finish. With this seasons Maddison and Udogie injuries its also starting to appear that some of the players are injury prone so player fitness could also be a factor for Frank as it was for Postecoglou.

Gyokeres scored 100 goals in the Portuguese league. If you don’t count Europa league goals then there’s no way you can count those.
