West Ham bid for Fernandes rejected

Latest from Sky Sports' Lyall Thomas, Mark McAdam and Adrian Kajumba:

West Ham have seen an opening bid of £30m rejected by Southampton for Matheus Fernandes.

Saints do not want to sell the midfielder and are adamant they will not unless they receive an offer closer to £50m.

It remains to be seen whether the Hammers are willing to make an improved bid.

I'm as pessimistic as they come usually but surely nobody believes this shit?

The idea that the club would fabricate links to players to somehow boost the fanbase is beyond ridiculous.
Not that they would fabricate links, just that they’d be “in” for the type of players we should have been pushing for all window long just to say “we tried” when they don’t get done.

Like has been the case way more often than not over the last couple decades.

I don't think the links are fabricated, but I do think there's a good chance we don't end up with even one of Savinho, Eze, and Paz. Spurs have a long history of being too clever by half when it comes to deals for experienced players. Our opening offers are almost always far off the mark and negotiations extend and then break down. Woolrich will come back in on Eze just to be sure Spurs don't get him. Man City won't let Savinho go unless they are sure of getting Rodrygo and, even then, Spurs would have to pay much more than they would like. Any deal for Paz seems to be a non-starter. Some chance on Eze, slight chance on Paz, and almost no chance Spurs get Savinho. Hope I'm wrong, but if there's a way to mess up these deals Spurs will find it.

I get the pessimism about if we can conclude the deals, but I just don't think the club can afford to fail here. I do think we will sign Savinho.

Eze one worries me more because of Woolwich gazumping us. I can just imagine they would love to do that.

Speaking of which, how weird is it that Woolwich and Arteta decided to prioritise signing Maudeke for 50 million? and then leaving Eze on the backburner because apparently they need to sell to buy.

Obviously it could all be bolllocks and this time next week Eze is at Woolwich, but if we do end up signing Eze, I wonder how much Woolwich actually wanted him anyway if they prioritised Madueke signing over him. Doesn't really make much sense and I see Woolwich fans are equally as confused.

Surely they should have signed Eze first, and then signed Madueke once they had sorted their outgoings. Only thing it could mean, is Arteta wanted Madueke more than Eze

Bryan Gil will go down as an absolute waster for many Spurs fans I'm sure, but for me there's absolutely a good footballer in there.

He didn't have the physical attributes to ever hit the ground running in England, nor seemingly did he have the grit to compensate for that initial culture shock.

But if he'd gone to a club that would have afforded him the time and patience to adapt to things, he could have become a top player.

In retrospect, the dumbest thing we did with him (beyond parting with £20m+ and Lamela to sign him) is pack him off on loans back to Spain, he should have been sent out to either a lower half Prem side or a top half Championship side, like Luka Modric being toughened up in the Bosnian league.
He just didn't develop into the player we all hoped he'd become. At youth level he was unbelievable but he was physically bullied at senior level and had more than enough opportunities.

He's just another example of thousands of cases where underage superstars just don't take the next step. I don't he would have made it anywhere.

It's our MO that we'll hear nothing now until our social media team start teasing.

I miss the days of flight trackers.

Nah, next tweet will be from Romano saying we are advancing in talks with City / Palace, deal on / personal terms already agreed etc'

or it will be something like 'City decide not to sell, valuation of clubs too far apart'

But we will definitely be hearing from Romano about it either way.

Any social media team stuff is way off, we haven't even agreed fees with the club yet

And with the release clause expiring on Friday, at least we should have an answer about Eze by the end of the week

Eze is one amongst quite a few Palace players who would get into our first team and improve it.

Can't disagree that he would improve it. And frankly, if Levy is willing to spend money you probably don't say no regardless of player since turning it down doesn't equal another player. I don't think Eze is a bad player, I think he is not the right 10 for us. I think you maximize Dom, Kudus and Savio with a passing 10 with vision. Look at the video I shared, there was no elite passing or vision but lots of elite carrying and finishing.
