Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Yep. And Savinho probably only became available the last few days. You can't always get them in when you want.

But no excuse if they aren't done in the next week or two
You’re probably right, but this just further highlights the absolute folly and amateurish nature of how we do business.

I have zero doubt that Savinho was on no list of ours at the start of the summer. I don’t think he’s the result of any strategy, long term plan or any “data driven” bollocks, but now all of a sudden our whole windows essentially boils down to whether we sign him or not.

A serious club would just not operate in this fashion.

It often feels like we place priority on the “opportunity” rather than a cohesive squad building vision. The tail wags the dog.

I would honestly rather we were misers with transfer fees but willing to go up to £250k/week on wages to get the right man, we might end up spending the same amount over the course of the players' contract if we were specifically targeting players in the last year of their deals with big money contracts, and I'm 100% convinced we would end up with a better standard of player than the way we do it, which is seemingly being willing to spend large fees as long as the player's agent is unlikely to push for anything north of £100k/week.

Scares me how quickly people think multi million pound deals take.

When people say ‘this deal was done quickly’ it wasn’t done any quicker than any other deal, it just got leaked later in the process than other similar deals.

You don’t send a bloke a figure and he says ‘yeah, go on then’ - the terms and conditions will be sent to internal lawyers and then they’ll clarify points and do a bit of back and forth and then a response will be given.

What I’m trying to say here is chill out. Clearly both these stories were leaked at very early stages of both deals. A long way to go yet on either.
Never a truer word spoken. I just don’t get it …. I mean it’s not like popping down the shops for a pint of milk.

And growing more complex by the window, in this age of deferred payments, spreading costs over multiple years for PSR purposes, deferred compensation to players/agents, loans with options/obligations to buy etc.

In fact, I think part of the growing commonality of loans with options/obligations is that it provides an expedient manner in which to get deals over the line whilst leaving the legal beagles time on the back end to revise and fine tune agreements, payment schedules, etc.

I think we're heading towards more pre-arrangements like when Liverpool signed Keïta. Especially with the continual growth of FIFA/UEFA summer fixtures/tournaments and more and more post/preseason globe trotting sponsorship tours.

Wouldn't panic with Tel, we can probably get most of our money back.

I'm disappointed to wake up and see the media have slaughtered us over last night.
We were  excellent for 80 minutes. We managed that game like seasoned pros.
The issue, and indeed the story, is how thin the squad was before and continues to be.
Maybe if that was the media narrative more often, in the main stream media, then Levy would eventually get it.

Fingers crossed we get the 2 players we're heavily linked with over the line......soon!

Looking at the bench yesterday and frank is going to have a job on his hands trying to keep players happy. There will be a few names missing out each match day squad.

Need the quality, we're far too reliant on kudus right now already for an attacking spark and he play every minute of every game.

Id expect johnson, bergvall, solanke and maybe odobert to all start v burnley.

I think that should be the narrative, that Levy in no way has the club ready for the demands of the season about to begin.

The difference between an average and a good season will be getting Eze and Salvinho over the line. Manager seems good, defence is solid but we badly lack going forward. If we had a bit more quality up top last night we would have won that, Kudus and Richy off and we fall away.

Maybe it was always the play? Not that I agree with it.
A player like savinho being available and us having a chance to sign is a massive opportunity that rarely happens. If we re-wound the window back to the beginning and it was known he was possibly available i think theres no way we get him.

Aside from yamal, doue and barcola theres no better young wingers in world football. Id argue hes close to the the latter 2 I named and his ceiling is just as high as them for sure.

We gotta push the boat out on this one fast.
