Match Super Cup Final - Spurs vs PSG, Weds 13th Aug, 8pm

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Gone 1am GMT and still thinking about the game. Impressed how we set up and played for the most part, transitioned well, fought aggressively breaking up play and winning those second balls.

Appreciate PSG just back on pre season but we matched them if not more. Lack of quality in depth cost us off the bench. Lange and Levy must get moving now, and as much as I hate this missed opportunity for a trophy it keeps expectation in check and (you’d hope) forces the board to get Eze, Savinho, another 6.

I don’t want to rag on Tel, I hope he comes good but Bayern have pulled our pants down by us signing him permanently. His initial attitude like we weren’t good enough for him until no one else wanted him made me question him. Needs to learn to beat his man and press properly.

Solanke isn’t a starting striker also or the long term answer up front. Gray also appears to have gone backwards.

Let’s hope 9am today we get serious in the market. Burnley won’t be a walkover.

The last 15-20 minutes could have been played under the exact same circumstances for dozens of times and this might not have happened once. They wouldn't have scored even one in a good amount of them.

Narratives of "bottling" or "being clutch" are more appealing, but contingency plays an often overlooked part in sports in general. Football is no exception.

We happened to be on the wrong side of it today. Sucks.

They had a few good chances in that last period, it's not like the goals came from nothing. Once the subs came on and they had some fresh legs and the game got a bit scruffier their individual quality showed.

Getting 15-20 minutes at 2-0 and comfortable gives you more time to do something positive and more time to be ineffective and a liability which Tel was. The final 5 frenetic minutes with about 6 PSG attackers on the pitch is hardly enough time for a player to make an impression. You've got an agenda and it's total crap.
He's talking shit.
They had about two weeks off, then a full week of training. Ange gave some of our key players that amount of time off and they still performed to a high level for 90 minutes to help us win the Europa league.
Dembele got better as the game went on. He wasn't lagging at all.
Those PSG players are super fit and battle hardened. We stifled them superbly for 60-70 minutes and it was us that run out of legs but unlike them , we didn't have a bench of quality to bring on.
Jesus. Our good performances in Europe were both Frankfurt legs. The final was two bold men fighting over a comb and thank fuck we scraped it. Did you watch every single minute of our European campaign? You really didn’t did you? We were embarrassingly bad for the vast majority of it, scraping past against some really shit teams into the playoff stage. What is your “positive change” at 2-0 up after 70mins?

How does that refute my point? I didn't deny that we were put on back foot during that stretch. It could've been avoided probably, yes.

But teams manage to get through those kind of stretches unscathed very regularly in football, even when they're thoroughly getting outplayed.

Chances of a football match getting turned around from a 2-0 deficit at the 85th minute are ridiculously low, irrespective of who plays who. I didn't know this was such a controversial take.

We only scrapped through all those Europa league ties BECAUSE of Romero , Vdv , Udogie etc and they were all rested and nursed through the PL.
Yes we weren't very good in some of those games but the key players were the difference !

Well, changing the hypothetical from 20 minutes to 5 rather messes with the probabilities involved.

We might well have won that match and should have, on that we agree. But we've had much harsher results than that one in terms of being against the run of play.

My point would be that if he can’t be expected to be good enough because he’s too young, then he shouldn’t be on the field, playing at the top level.
Yes, that’s harsh but this is the Big Time baby, no time for losers.

I could also say, a player costing 60 million, should pop in the odd goal?

Tel is just twenty, and has played a handful of games for us (13), but Richarlison at twenty eight years of age, has played 91 games for us, scoring 20 goals, or just 7 a season.

I know who has the most upside of the two players.

We should all get off the kids back, and look at the bigger picture.

If anyone wants to slsg off a player following that match, I'd suggest looking in the direction of this guy:

:bissoumahear:

Who might have been pretty fucking useful off of the bench instead of a teenager to shore up the midfield, had he been professional enough to not show up late multiple times, for a new Manager no less!
Not only let himself down but more importantly let his team mates down and possibly cost them all a winners medal.
Could have made a difference in those last 20 minutes. Sell this window.

Certainly encouraging signs that Frank and the team can adapt and prepare based on opponents. Tired legs by the end saw Spurs needlessly concede 2 goals. First goal was a very good strike. 2nd goal could had been avoided. Bentancur didn't make the run to the front post to block the ball, and Romero also allowed the striker to walk right past him. Odd defending, that I can only really put down to tired legs.

We won't play many better sides than that throughout the season, so there are many positives to come out of the game. If we get a few new signings in to improve the starting side and depth off the bench we could have a great season. Savinho, Eze a striker and a spare full back are needed ASAP.

Or maybe just judging a player on his actual performance rather than some fucking pipe dream fantasy of the footballer he might become.

Something that actual soppy cunts love doing.

Ten minutes mate. Tel had ten minutes FFS

Let's talk about our two combined 125 million pound strikers, and their scintillating show. But we won't because Richarlison ran around, looked mean and gnashed his teeth. But did little else, but gets a free ride.

Solanke returning from injury, and looked to have more chance of catching a cold than trapping a ball.

Oh I agree with you on those 2 but the heat on Tel isn’t just about tonight is it? He’s shown very little at any point for us.

His defenders keep saying he’s young, super talented, give him time but his actual performances have never really shown us anything special. He didn’t really look special in Germany either, Bayern were happy to offload him.

The way some of our fans are going on about him, it’s like we’ve signed the next Thierry Henry but the actual evidence suggests he’s nowhere near that level of talent. He looks very average indeed.
