As the pundits believe that Liverpool, City, Woolwich and Chelski are finishing 1-4 , (not necessarily in that order), is the best we can achieve 5th ?
Of course this may be good enough for champions league or at least Europa Cup again.
Who should we compare ourselves to ?

Top 4 or 5 is do-able .

Absolutely nobody predicted us finishing 17th at the start of last season and we managed to pull that off ; why shouldn’t we surprise everyone again ?

It’s who we are mate , after all .

Squad as it is - 6th-9th

If we add eze and savinho - 3rd - 5th

If we add both the above and a cb/lb like hincapie - 3rd- 4th

Diminishing returns and all.

To get higher than that we'd need a top cm and possibly a striker although I think solanke is underrated.

As it stands there should be absolutely no reason not to think we can finish at least fifth.

We may come third or seventh, who knows, but I tend to think we underrate ourselves a little. I think our ‘starters’ and one or two others in the squad are right up there with but it’s after that where the issues, I think, begin. A couple more signings that are first team ready and who knows what the ceiling is, but I don’t think we should really be fearing Newcastle, Villa and the like. If we are, and I mean no disrespect to either of those clubs, there’s no point in us even bothering to turn up and play football.

The squad, as is, is well capable of finishing top 5 provided we do not have our customary injury decimation. If we strengthen before the window closes we could be top 4.

The main factor mitigating against us is not the quality of the squad, it is whether Frank has the capacity to steer the club through domestic and European competitions. If he rises to that challenge, I think we'll have a very good season.
