Competition Are we playing for 5th ?

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

As the pundits believe that Liverpool, City, Woolwich and Chelski are finishing 1-4 , (not necessarily in that order), is the best we can achieve 5th ?
Of course this may be good enough for champions league or at least Europa Cup again.
Who should we compare ourselves to ?
Yeah right. They all predicted that Leicester would win in 2015-16 didn’t they? They just take the easy options. They don’t really know any more than us.

"Who should we compare ourselves to ?"

No one - we should forge ahead without sacking off the Domestic Trophies...

But to do so we need, which was completely obvious to anyone who watched that game against PSG, we lack a quality Squad Depth...

This is due to recruitment, of which at Spurs we've lacked for decades!!!

No Manager or Coach can snap their fingers for a player to ball-out as that comes with experience...age doesn't equate to experience...

Bottom line if we take history with Frank's it is what it is...yall have eyes & memory...

As a fan I SHOULD expect European Football qualification with AT LEAST a domestic final...we are fukkin Spurs ffs...

People who think Eze and Savinho alone get us third or fourth are kidding themselves. Fifth is very doable with it but teams who were miles ahead of us in the top 4 also signed fantastic players in the summer.

With those two I would expect to finish fifth. Without them top 7 is a good finish.

If we can keep our key players fit then we can look forward to a big season.
If Levy splashes the cashes and we have excellent replacements if our top guys go missing then we have a lot more fun.

I'm surprised at the negative comments. Assuming there is not an injury crisis like Spurs had the past 3 seasons, there is no reason to think this squad can't win the league.

Spurs finished 5th in an injury ravaged season where they were forced to play Davies/Royal at center back.

Vic, Porro, Romero, VDV, Udogie + Paulinha has to rank as one of the best defences in the league. Spurs will no longer be playing out from the back, so one of Vic's weaknesses will be mitigated.

Spurs will be more conservative and defensive. Expect more draws, less losses.

Of course, up front there is no Son, Kulu and Madison - and Johnson may well have lost his place. So it's hard to see where the goals will come from. But if Spurs become set piece FC, there are plenty of goal scorers in the side. But, it's clear Spurs need a focal point and goal scorer so either Solanke, Richarlison, Tel or Johnson will need to fight to become that guy - and that competition makes perfect conditions for them give 100% to claim the starting place.

It never gets old mate

Liverpool and Woolwich are near locks for top 4 I would say.

The other two spots are likely Chelsea and City but I think those two are the ones who could fall out if there is to be any shake up.

We’re no where near those clubs at present but I wouldn’t say we’re that far off the clubs fighting for fifth so if one of those two falter, why not us?

City, in particular, are a wild card for me. They have the squad to walk the league but I could just as easily see them falling out of the title race and Pep being over it all.

I'm not so sure on Liverpool. Trent has been the key to their success during the Klopp era. They will be playing a new system now and their best players - Alison, VanDyke and Salah are all due to collect their pension soon.

We have how many players are ALREADY INJURED??? 1 or more will cause major issues...

Our negativity comes from a fear of a quality depth of squad...which must be addressed via new recruitment...

4-8th is our range.

All the other big clubs have spent so Savinho, Hincapie, and Eze coming in give us a better chance at cracking the top 4.

Without them, we still have a squad better than the one that finished 5th so 5-8 is about right.

The question will be what we do in CL, and the Cups. A run at 4th gets easier if we don’t make a serious run and CL and LC.

Unreal commentary.
I really don't want to hate on anybody. I'm glad you appear to be such an optimistic person- that's rare these days.

Would also be an overachievement

Our current squad is 8th or 9th at best

Folks in this thread are thinking of 5th as if it will be easy to beat Villa, Newc, and Forest this season- teams that absolutely did us last season. We'll obviously improve a lot under Frank just by virtue of him being a good coach, but it'll be a scrap for us to better those 3 clubs, much less breaking into the top 4.

You think Trent has been their key player in the Klopp era?
They seemed to do pretty well today. Ekitike looks to be doing a pretty good Isak impression so far.
