Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

My two favourite PL players over the last few years MGW and Eze are not coming both HG.
How do we stand on our HG quota? Something that adds to the misery of the last few days.
Not counting injured Madders, Drag, Takai and Kulu we are 13 NHG and 6HG in the EPL squad of 25.
UCL is 18 NHG and 5 Association in the max squad of 21.
(Both totals include Solomon).

I have zero issue with us signing dibling. He’s absolutely a talented lad. We just aren’t the level of club where we should rely on Diblings to reinforce the squad now.

If we signed Eze and then also added a dibling - everyone is happy. If we flail around and end up signing dibling instead it looks desperate and it’s obviously not going to strengthen us now.
In my heart, agree with you. But I'm increasingly wondering - especially when it comes to the highlighted part - whether we need to recalibrate our perception of what our real level is.

What pattern would you apply to these?

Bale
Modric
Walker
Porro
Romero
Sarr
VDV
Son
Dembele
Toby
Jan
Bale - Punt on a very highly rated teenager - not that expensive.
Modric - Who else was in for him? Newcastle? Shirts taken off the value of the fee.
Walker - Signed along with Kyle Naughton as a punt on youth.
Porro - Big fee, how long did it take to sort again?
Romero - FFP dodginess with Juve/Atalanta
Sarr - Punt on youth.
VDV - Last minute success from an unwanted (and with a poor injury history) player at RM.
Son - Was a gamble at the time on a young Asian player.
Dembele - Release clause.
Toby - Contract expiring.
Jan - Contract expiring (Ditto Eriksen)

Yeah, hard to spot a pattern if you're fucking thick.

I mean, it is a bit funny that you're trying to educate me on how football transfers work, when, im guessing, you have never done one and are unlikely to have ever sold a single asset even close to being worth £50m with the level of complexity of a player deal....

Like it or not, Levy has bought and sold more footballers that you, I or, in fact, all of us collectively on this forum ever will. Its not even close.

All i did was answer a question I was asked. I answered it in good faith; it's my opinion.
So a nothing answer, and your call for an honest debate was a lie.

99% of people have no real understanding of climate change, but have enough common sense to that what we are doing isn't good.

I don't need to have extensive knowledge of football transfers to know that our approach is woeful and embarrassing.

Nice attempt at trying to deflect from some uncomfortable truths you don't want to face.

You can see why Levy sticks to his model. Produced some of the best players in the game.

Well that can work any which way one chooses

It was both. A good performance for 85 minutes then we capitulated.

Capitulation wrong word in my view

Played well for most of the game and deserved our two goal lead but conceded two late goals and lost in a penalty shootout to one of the best teams in Europe!

I was proud of our boys even if some ‘alleged’ fans on here weren’t!

Me lol.

I gave an answer about what I thought our transfer strategy was, and your response had nothing to do with what I said.

Your first point was this

Answer me this, what's the point in a strategy, when the guy involved has such an ego, that he needs to win every battle, that strategy becomes irrelevant? Twice this window Levy has embarrassed the club with has transfer negotiations.

Do not gaslight me, i am not an idiot - you did not enter this discussion with any desire to have a conversation - just to push your own anti-levy, agenda with 'facts' that you have concocted in your head so you can make sense of the feelings of disappointment and possibly to comfort yourself from the banter you feel from other football fans, as to why we don't get the players you want us to.

And your comparison to climate change is frankly ridiculous.

Nah, us fans don't need to recalibrate anything. Levy does. If you want to deliver Brighton-level signings, then charge Brighton-level ticket prices.

We play in a £1bn stadium and pay £1600 for our season tickets. We have every right to demand a squad with more established players. If Levy wants us to sit in the stands and watch youngsters learn the game, then he should be charging us 75% less.
