Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

How on earth have Woolwich been left short? They have the strongest squad they have had in decades.

They have an embarassment of riches in attack. Gyokeres, Jesus, Martinelli, Saka, Eze, Trossard, Havertz, Madueke, Gwaneri, you can even add fucking Dowman who looks like a wonderkid.

How on earth is that left short?

Dudu you routinely say the most ridiculous things on here honestly.

What have they won? Being left short has meant they have won nothing for years.

Were they left short last season? And the season before?

For the first time in 5 seasons they have a near complete squad largely due to their manager being there for 5 years

Sick of people coo'ing over them.

And I can’t help feeling that we let Forest bully us and MGW into playing the good guy.

Sounds like we stopped contacting MGW and then just found out he was signing a contract. What the player needed was us in his ear saying don’t worry about any legal crap, we’ll take care of that, hand in a transfer request and we will cover any bonuses you lose.

But instead we want passive and he probably figured we didn’t want him enough for the stress to be worth it.
With his other half having a difficult pregnancy he probably didn’t have the head space for the aggro.

Agent probably bottled it and advised him to stay put if they were being threatened with legal action.

Well but that's exactly what I was and am saying.

Failure to make sufficient funds available to keep up the squad during that period wound up costing the club MUCH MUCH MORE over the longer term because of the way fees inflated.

Cheapness was the most expensive option. Penny wise, pound foolish.
This post could have been posted 20, 15, 10, 5, 2 or 1 year ago. The board are dysfunctional. A PLC would have been forced out by shareholders in a public company

Not sure what to make of paqueta tbh. Hes not the same player he was. Would he be a good choice for 10 position? He normally plays 8 but not sure hes got the legs for it ideally. Tbh I always try avoid west ham games lol

I think id accept paqueta AND savinho.

You have come to the view that we don’t spend based on feelings.

You raise 60m as the magic figure but Woolwich have only ever spent that three times.

Rice
Pepe
Havertz

One great. One terrible. One decent but not worth the money. You think those have been the game changers for Woolwich ?

The other signings are well within our budget as we have shown with three offers for above 60m this summer (MGW, Eze and Savinho).

Gyokeres is a flat track bully and a huge risk. If he turns out like Darwin Nunez (who had made much more of an impact on the CL than Gyokeres) then he’ll be a flop.

Now look at our best eleven or so players over the past decade:

Lloris
Walker
Alderweirald
Vertonghen
Romero
Spence or Rose
Dembele
Eriksen
Alli
Son
Kane

How many of those came for big money? Maybe Romero ??

Spending 60m on a player will get you quality. You can find incredible players in the 40-60m range.

Rice has absolutely been a game changer for them, I mean that is widely recognised. Not only are his set pieces / corners an absolutely lethal weapon for them, he absolutely runs the game for them in midfield from both an attacking and defensive view point.

The other two haven't. Again though you are twisting things to fit your argument. It's not just transfer fees. Specifically the wages, that allow Woolwich to attract the players they can do, Levy doesn't do the same.

Additionally, they have built from a position of strength. This is the crucial bit of it all. Now that their footballing project is attractive, they have signed some really talented players, like Rice and Zubimendi, Caliofiori, Timber, Eze etc

Can you imagine Levy going out and signing a game changer for 100 million like Woolwich did for Arteta? Or like FSG did for Klopp?

Of course you know the answer.

We never did that under Levy when we had the chance. We were in the position of title challengers and Levy allowed the squad to stale, even going a whole window with no signings. It's preposterous.

You would be better of reading tea leaves than paying heed to what that prat Trix says, he knows nothing.

Can live with BEK if it's in addition to a starting 10 like Paz or similar. We looked good yesterday under Franks stewardship but rotation will be a must so additions are required.

Don't let Levynomics come into play, two 10's, a left winger and a LCH/LB are the bare minimum required. If we did this we have as much a chance as the rest for top 4, a run in the CL and a run/tilt in the domestic cups, but for once back your manager fully and give us that chance.

They've invested 300m into a team that came 2nd 3 years in a row. Gyokores, Zubimendi and Eze all raise the standard of their team again. This is the strongest squad they've had now since they last won the title. Madueke brought in just to play when Saka is injured so they even covered that angle.

I hate them so much. I hope it all goes wrong for them. I hope they come second again. But they keep getting stronger and stronger every year. The outcome is inevitable. They will win the title again very soon. I hope I'm wrong. I hope they bottle it and we actually give Frank 300m to spend next summer and pass them out. But right now they are primed to win.

Really weird that you consider Madueke, Dowman, Trossard, Jesus and Gwaneri as ‘riches’

🤣

Are you saying they don't have a fantastic depth in attack? Come on now that's just silly. Put the Spurs bias down.

Of course they aren't all world class, no club has that. But they have really good depth, none of them are terrible. Ok maybe Jesus.

Absolutely spot on.

This is bullshit mate.

Go and look at HOW they built most of this team.

Gabriel, Martinelli, Odegaard, Saliba.... all bought for pennies on very very modest wages.

They bought a few expensive players from a position of strength but also... Trossard, Merino, Timber,

We are were they were 3 years ago in terms of our squad evolution.

Getting up to 80m for savinho. I know he’s good but is he worth that kinda money? Let’s focus on getting a 10! Like bek or Akilouche!

He is at around Kudus level but with much more room to grow. I am sure we will buy a 10 even if it’s the guy from Leicester. Maybe it’s overpay but it’s not like we don’t get deals like Maddison for relatively cheap. The squad has depth, it lacks quality in key areas and that means paying a lot on just a few players rather than a lot on many players.

80m Euro (£70m) is better for Savinho than spending £35m on two average players who just clog up the bench.

I literally said all of that ffs.

Difference is we won't build from strength like they did.

Again, the team.that got second the first season was built for pennies.

Then they added Rice and Havertz and have been left short for years without a striker and suitable RW replacement for saka.

They may have gotten close now, but its taken them YEARS.
